Ivy Killer wanted
Ivy Killer wantedHi Everybody
I just wondered if anybody has a "fool Proof" Ivy killer? We have tried Glyphosate and SBK both with and without washing up liquid to help it stick, but with no effect. It run along both sides of the back fence and has started to invade the greenhouse and we want it gone. The sprays are dealing with the Russian vine that is entwined with the Ivy, but not the Ivy itself and it's doing my nut in. Regards WW Every day I live with fear,,,,, sometimes she lets me out to play
Re: Ivy Killer wantedYou and me both ! I think it is the waxy leaves that stop the killer stuff getting through.

Re: Ivy Killer wantedA few years back I bought a bottle of Ivy Killer which was very effective - I got it from B&Q but they don't seem to sell it anymore. I could only find This DOFF brand in my google search, but I can't be sure if it is the same or not.
Re: Ivy Killer wantedThanks LL but the only review says it doesn't work

Re: Ivy Killer wantedHi LL
It contains Glyphosate, which I've already used and at nearly 3x the recommended dosage and the Ivy just laughed at me like this It's growing up, over and through a 7foot fence. I am seriously think of accidentally setting fire to the whole fence and blaming it on spontanious combustion WW Every day I live with fear,,,,, sometimes she lets me out to play
Re: Ivy Killer wantedOh dear. That is terrible.
Ours comes through next doors fence [which is owned by us] Last time we had to renew it was terrible to get the panels out. The neighbours did say they would stop it growing up. But obviously not. I am pulling it up when it comes through. But need top kill the roots, to stop it. http://www.busheyk9.co.uk

Chopping/sawing off at the base and then pulling all the dead ivy above when it has lost its grip is the only way I know, but obviously doesnt get rid of the active root. I know some people use petrol for a tree stump. They drill through the remaining stump, pour petrol in, but I would be careful in this hot weather or you may get the fire you have talked of. Re: Ivy Killer wantedWe (the royal we) have spent the last 2 days getting ivy off a wall at the back of our house we have snipped pulled it off and the mess it has left on the wall is awful, we have been using a scraper to get the roots off, now in the process of digging what seems 6 foot to get the root out, never again I have to say petrol and dynamite did come to mind
Re: Ivy Killer wantedI am at the minute using my Google-fu to try find a supplier of napalm
I think it may come down to brute force and ignorance and take the loppers, axe and machete to it Does anyone know how to train snails to eat Ivy? WW Every day I live with fear,,,,, sometimes she lets me out to play
Re: Ivy Killer wantedIf you find said snails let me know.

Still Thank you WW Every day I live with fear,,,,, sometimes she lets me out to play
Re: Ivy Killer wanted"and at nearly 3x the recommended dosage and the Ivy just laughed at me like this "
Try the normal dose, it works for me maybe it will need 2 or 3 hits over a couple of months and in the evening, but it works.(with a small drop of detergent) No problem can withstand the power of continuous thought.
Re: Ivy Killer wantedWhy do you want to kill Ivy, it's a glorious plant. It's more or less the final nectar flow of the year for the bees, it's fruits feed Blackbirds at the time they need something and it does more good than harm to old trees and buildings.
Re: Ivy Killer wantedTrue. I have ivy in pots and a controlled bed of it.
BUT it gets into my fencing and I am sorry I don 't want it there. http://www.busheyk9.co.uk

Re: Ivy Killer wanted
Fishpond We started at the normal dose, without then with detergent to no effect. It was after this I upped the concentration.
enigmatica We want rid because it's coming through the fence and trying to eat the greenhouse. WW Every day I live with fear,,,,, sometimes she lets me out to play
