I go Geocaching.I go Geocaching.Hi,
I like to go Geocaching in my spare time. Its treasure hunting in the 21st century. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. At the moment there are 554642 caches placed all over the world. To find them you need to register (free) on http://www.geocaching.com, a gps system, and a love for the great out doors. If you dont have a GPS it is possible to find caches using an os map but is a little harder. Some parks have started to hire gps systems out as well. What are the rules in Geocaching? The rules are very simple: 1. Take something from the cache 2. Leave something in the cache 3. Write about it in the logbook If your interested in having a go have a look on the website put in your postcode and see how many caches there are locally. You'll be surprised how many there are. Thanks.
Jerry What a FANTASTIC idea - I can't believe there is a cache less than a mile from my house when I did the search.
My extended family get together regularly for walks, this is going to put a whole new twist on them. We don't live in the most scenic of walking locations, where the rest live up in rolling hills. When it's my turn to organise the walk, we always have to meet away from home if we are to get an 'interesting' walk. Thnaks so much for this great idea, Effie " -zere isn't much to do 'ere, unless you like cooking and chickens!"
I'm not saying this one will be a beauty spot but you'll eventually come across somewhere you didn't know exist. I particularly like to visit caches when visiting different parts of the country on either business or pleasure. There is a website that is more uk based (http://www.geocacheuk.com/) This gets its data from geocaching.com but allows better filtering on searches.
Let me know how it goes. Thanks.
Jerry
hi Jaylay30
ive a friend who does this, i went with her once, to a place called Mowcop in staffordshire, it was a bit cloak and dagger, ducking and diving, waiting for other walkers to pass so she could locate the cache, without being seen by non geocachers, she does it all the time and goes to meets etc, littlefeat at home with 1 dog, 2 rats, 3 rabbits, 6 fish, 4 cats, 8 chickens, 2 kids and 1 hubby
Well Jerry, we gave it a go this weekend. Only had a 25% success rate but we were using a 10 year old GPS which was only accurate to 2d.p., not 3.
It's a good job we found the first cache 'cos there's no way the kids would have carried on trudging about if there hadn't been some proof that we weren't on a wild goose chase. We'll try again, making sure we go for really, really easy ones Thanks for the idea, Effie " -zere isn't much to do 'ere, unless you like cooking and chickens!"
Last year we took Monty (our dog) on a camping holiday to Derbyshire. Went walking one afternoon and came across a box stuffed down the side of a dry stone wall.
Upon opening discovered it was one of the geocaches - it was full of all sorts of lovely little things. Only trouble was the only thing we had on us was the car keys - hmmn, no sorry we couldn't take anything, cos we couldn't really leave anything. Brilliant idea, though! http://www.freshstartforhens.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Could someone let me know (as I'm being nosey here) what sort of things you are supposed or is suggested for you to leave?
