Knitting Intarsia!Knitting Intarsia!OK, as some of you will know I am attempting to knit this for a pressy
Having unravelled the plain bit once, I have now got to the pattern bit and wanted to ask any experienced knitters a question. I have googled intarsia, and think I understand the concept, but considering applying it is tricky. I can see that I need 2 separate lots of wool for the wheels, and 1 lot for the bumper. My problem is that I thought 2 lots for the red body, but now I am thinking I maybe need four lots for the red body because of the headlights? Help please!! Oh no, do I need 2 lots of bumper white too.....????? Helen xx

Actually, possibly anyone could help. The idea is that you use separate balls/bobbins of wool for each blob. So, for instance, for the wheels I will need 2 strands, and the main colour round the wheels, 3 (I think). But I just need some help in identifying how many strands I will need in advance. Helen xx

But looking at it on the 'ernet it looks like fairisle. With that the trick is not to pull the wool tight, if going across the pattern. Or if using different balls twist the wool around the other as you start the new one. Probably doesn't make any sense saying it http://www.busheyk9.co.uk
If you can't be a good example........ you will just have to be a horrible warning Re: Knitting intarsia HELP!!Yes, they say to twist it, but the idea is not to have strands across the back.

It is so hard to explain.

My main worry at the moment is planning the numbers of balls/bobbins of wool I will need for each colour to work the pattern (if you get what i mean) Helen xx

Re: Knitting intarsia HELP!!I am glad I reassured you
Re: Knitting intarsia HELP!!I think it sounds worse than it is.
Once you get going you will work ways around keeping the wool apart. I can't remember what I did, as it was for the grand children when they were small and Martin is 28 this year I think I kept them in separate bags. You'll be fine http://www.busheyk9.co.uk
If you can't be a good example........ you will just have to be a horrible warning Re: Knitting intarsia HELP!!I hope so! Just a bit daunting!

Re: Knitting intarsia HELP!!I reckon it would be easier to do it all in white wool and then colour it in

I think that is a brilliant idea Re: Knitting intarsia HELP!!It could happen
Certainly not something to attempt after a glass or two of wine - I can't count at the best of times!! Helen xx

I've done quite a bit, and you do need a lot of separate balls of yarn. You can carry it across the back over maybe 6 stitches, catching it in halfway across if you get what I mean. I made this cushion for my nephew, I took the pattern from a chart for a jumper and adapted it to make a cushion as he couldn't grow out of that!
