Bugs and the VictoriansBugs and the Victorians'Bugs and the Victorians' by JFM Clark, a history professor at St. Andrew's and writer of some biographies for the Oxford National Biography. I have to say that it is a fascinating read and partial history tracking the early naturalists (starts his focus in the 18th century) through to the zenith of entomology in the 19th century. If anyone is interested in why Victorians were so obsessed with our natural world and how this fed into our culture (and still does), this is a fascinating read.

Re: Bugs and the VictoriansMay be I should read it. Just posted in members' area a post; "We've got bed bugs".

Re: Bugs and the VictoriansI read the thread title and thought 'germs'.
All part of the wonderful natural world. (Why does a wildlife friendly garden encourage moles, rats & rabbits?) Dance caller. http://mo-dance-caller.blogspot.co.uk/p/what-i-do.html
Sunny Clucker enjoyed Folk music and song in mid-Cheshire Re: Bugs and the VictoriansYes, it is a bit expensive (also only in hardback version currently) and probably reflecting the amount of work that went into pulling it together. There doesn't seem to be any recent book like it. Could be one to order at the local library though?
