One swallow doesn't make a summerOne swallow doesn't make a summerBut how about a bright blue sky, 2 swallows, 3 buzzards, some sort of warbler, and at least 5 butterflies - 2 or more holly blue, an orange tip, a peacock & a speckled wood.

Re: One swallow doesn't make a summerNo it still does not count.
I have spent a week cutting back bushes, fighting with thorns and numerous trailer loads to the tip. The roses are pruned and the grass is cut. They are predicting snow in Denmark this week. Summer is not here yet. Re: One swallow doesn't make a summerOh, spoilsport.
It may be the only summer day we get. Dance caller. http://mo-dance-caller.blogspot.co.uk/p/what-i-do.html
Sunny Clucker enjoyed Folk music and song in mid-Cheshire Re: One swallow doesn't make a summerA very early swallow, Mo! They will need overcoats and woollie hats if they come up here.
Re: One swallow doesn't make a summerThey need then here today. Yet it was blazing over the weekend.

Sunny Clucker enjoyed Folk music and song in mid-Cheshire Re: One swallow doesn't make a summerNot seen any yet, but will keep looking.
Colder here today too. Re: One swallow doesn't make a summerSaw a house martin on the telegraph wires yesterday. Just the one. They like to nest at the end of our house.
Re: One swallow doesn't make a summerI saw my first Swallow of the year last night, flying at speed over the Lakes close by.
There were about 12 / 13 we reckoned. They've been at Dungeness and other Kent Coastal sites for about 10 days, but they usually stop there, stock up then move on to their usual summer places. What a flight from South Africa...incredible. Good news is the Midgies are here for them to feed on. The more they eat, the less they annoy us. Richard New Member? Re: One swallow doesn't make a summerStill not seen a swallow here.
Re: One swallow doesn't make a summerThe swallows have arrived here but their numbers are severely depleted from previous years, fingers crossed the rest are just late in arriving, strangely there are no house/sand martins with them either

Re: One swallow doesn't make a summerYipeeee, saw my first Swallow yesterday, just the one though.
Re: One swallow doesn't make a summer"One swallow doesn't make a summer"..........................but a several Golden Orioles in Bulgaria does!!
These stunning birds have returned, fingers crossed they nest in the old lime tree they used last year. Only ever saw one of these in all my time in the UK but they are a welcome and regular sight here. "Not all those who wander are lost"
Re: One swallow doesn't make a summerWill have to google that one, Trev as have no idea what they look like.
Still only seen the one Swallow, although me thinks there must be more, just not seen them.
Re: One swallow doesn't make a summerWe've had 2-3 Swallows around for a couple of weeks now. We have lived here 21 years & year on year have seen the numbers decline which is very sad.
Golden Oriole are a stunning bird! Sadly never seen one here in the UK, we went to RSPB Lakenheath a few years ago as they bred there but didn't see them & I don't think any breed there now. |
