StarlingsRe: StarlingsI think some go others come (from further north). And they are quite spectacular in winter flying around in big flocks before roosting.
Video here of a 'moot'. They make quite a noise as they fly over.

Re: StarlingsBit like Blackbirds, here all the time but joined by overseas visitors for Winter.
I saw probably 2,000+ the other day at Oare Marshes, special. Murmurations come soon, well worth googling favourite places to see them - think more on the coast than inland though. Couldn't get them all in my lens !! Richard New Member? Get more from the Forum and join in 'Members Chat' - you're very welcome
Re: StarlingsDon't know if the coast has bigger groups. The first I ever saw / heard was when walking by the river Tees near Stockton. I've had them overhead here too. Noisy wings

Re: StarlingsStarlings are amazing little birds really.
We had one (probably still around) that has a huge repertoire of sound. It can mimic vehicles, phones, and even giggling children. He also does a really great buzzard call, really fooled me with that one! They are such feisty, quarrelsome birds in the garden, and almost as brave as the blackbirds where we people are concerned. Re: StarlingsThanks for the links, Mo. The funny thing is that although we had Starlings round here last winter, there were not that many, so quite a few more this year when they were on the electicity wires at the front of our house.
Just to add we also have loads of Blackbirds both last year and this and all look in tip top condition from what I can see too. |
