North London Hen Rescue - hens coming out on 26-27 July

Post by NorthLondonHenRescue »

Hello! We are rescuing hens on 26-27 July 2008 - please email me if you would like to give any of these girls a home. We will be delivering hens to co-ordinators in various parts of the country.

Please note there was a typo in the email address given for me in another thread in this forum, so apologies if you tried to contact me and your email got rejected. My address is

carly@northlondonhenrescue.org.uk

Please email rather than PM me, as I can't file PMs and lose track of them.

Best wishes, Carly

Hi folks - I know this is posted on PP Forum. Anyone use any other forums relating to chooks? Just wondering if there is any chance of you mentioning this thread.

It's sad to think of the hens who may not be lucky

Great, katt!!

Getting my 2nd lot of ex-batts a few weeks ago made me want to learn more about battery hens. The footage on the likes of YouTube covers everything from very sad to happy endings. I've read a few papers from different organisations regarding these birds from being eggs to what happens to male chicks to how the girls are kept and how they end up. It's quite shocking that we allow things like this to go on.

Yes shocking it is and the government allows it to continue.

Hi, I am excited to be a co-ordinator for the above rescue.

Anybody in the North who wants battery hens and can collect fron sunny Doncaster, please access the new North London Hen rescue site at www.northlondonhenrescue.org.uk to complete the form and register interest.

This is also the place to go if you want to help or co-ordinate in future rescues.

Hi Wendy,
Unfortunately neither of us drive (bluebell does have a rather swank moped, though) so the hens will be dropped off at my house for distribution and bluebell will come round to help out.

we won't see you but will be thinking about you.

Fingers crossed it all goes well

ha ha. I have conjured up a picture of Bluebell on the moped, with boxes of hens either side. LOL
You are doing a good job chicken minding. I haven't the room for that. I take them to Carlys, then unload and help with others taking them until it is nearly time for Carly to get home. Then we go. We get to meet some lovely people. This time it was one great girl who took absolutely loads to take for others.
Well done

Here Wendy - don't laugh (oh, well seeing it's you, go on).

Last time we had a hen with a horrible prolapse. I wanted to get her seen straight away, so carried her out and put her under the seat of my scooter and whizzed her through to our surgery.

Got some funny looks off Jackie's neighbours!!!! :-D

I looked like a bloomin' pizza delivery guy! :-D :-D

Seriously, though, I didn't feel good with myself for putting the hen through the trama, but was unable to 'do the deed' myself so took her into work where my vet PTS.

Needs must as the devil drives.

We have managed to get a hire van for a really good price. So I am borrowing dog cages from friends for the 26th rescue. We have four cages and two cat carriers and have been offered another 4 so we are getting there.

Hi all,

Just thought I would bump this up as there is still plenty of time to visit the website www.northlondonhenrescue.org.uk if anyone wante ex-bats in two weeks time. (f+

Most northerly co-ordinators are Harrogate, Doncaster, Sheffield and Manchester.
