Re: Old Radio memoriesRadio Luxembourg was listened to in the best room as that was the only place you could get reception but the fire was never lit in there so we listened snuggled in blankets. Maggie do you remember how to spell Keynsham
Loved the radio during Sunday morning through to afternoon. Two way family favourites ( was the theme tune 'with a song in my heart?) Billy Cottons Band Show Life with the Lyons And listening to plays or adaptations of maybe Dickens novels, always done with the lights off in the gloom of a winter afternoon. It will be alright in the end , if its not alright, it isn't the end .

Re: Old Radio memoriesTwo way family favourites did have a bit for forces posted overseas BFPO40 I seem to recall and every so often they would link up with somewhere like Gibralter for 20 mins or so. The start of real technology I guess.
And I remember Listen with Mother way before Watch with Mother and it was still Rag Tag and Bobtail It will be alright in the end , if its not alright, it isn't the end .

Re: Old Radio memoriesWith only one TV channel we always had the Saturday night play on the radio. On Sundays it was Jimmy Clithero,The Navy Lark and Sunday night,The Cliff Adams Singers.
When Irish eyes are smiling, they are usually up to mischief.
Re: Old Radio memoriesJourney into Space - my brother and I were addicts. Our living room light switch was outside the door, and my father's idea of fun was to suddenly plunge us into darkness.
I loved Woman's Hour, Mrs Dales Diary, The Archers, and later Waggoners Walk. Can't remember the name of the show but I think it was Kenneth Williams whose lines was "my name is Sid Mincing and I am the owner of this emporium". My flatmate and I found it most entertaining. Re: Old Radio memories

Re: Old Radio memories
I used to listen Journey into Space with my big sister. The whole series was on radio 4plus not long ago and it's still worth listening to! I'd like to live as a poor man with lots of money.
- Pablo Picasso Re: Old Radio memoriesMy next-door neigbour used to record Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy for us kids on his reel-to-reel tape recorder. Thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever heard.
