Broody ? Bald bottoms !!!

Hi My girls have been laying beautifully for weeks now and we have all enjoyed watching them completely destroying their patch of the garden. We seem to have two issues. Firstly our Silkie ( Diva) has taken to sitting in the coop for nearly all of the day. She comes out first thing for food and then...

Hi I introduced two new girls only one week after collecting my first two. I was amazed at the bullying. I seperated them for about a week then allowed them together for the last hour of the day and allowed them to sleep together. Then separated them again the next day and went through the same rout...

Hi and welcome,
Can't help on the supplies front as at the other end of the country.
But found a good supplier by having a look on one of the chicken pellet manufacturers web sites where they listed their suppliers by area.
Hope this helps.

Hi Welcome. You will now spend all your time watching your girls, then when you are not with them you will still be thinking about them, and then when it is dark you will spend your time on here talking about them or reading about everyone elses. Have to say I have loved every minute of them ( excep...

I have tried the girls on various things that have been mentioned including wetabix, boiled veg etc but they turned their beaks up at it all. I started to think that because they spend so much time free ranging that they were very fussy. That was until I offered them tinned sweetcorn. WOW...... Talk...

Nothing but the best for my chooks..... The sofa was put there temporarily ( two years ago) so I could break it down and take it to the dump. Then changed car and never got around to it. The dogs used it for a while and now the chooks use it. Guess its still recycling. Can only sit on the edge when ...

Peace at last (pics)

After a week and a bit of squabbles, life has now returned to love and tranquility as all the bullying of the two new girls has stopped. The four girls are now a happy gang, who cannot wait to free range round their bit of the garden. Took some photos of them this morning, they loved the camera. One...

Hi Sarah Welcome. Looks like a real palace. I envy you having the time to spend a week off with them. Now with the dark nights, I only get to see my girls first thing in the morning. Its hard to believe that you will spend so much time thinking of them. They are my greatest pleasure ......( after th...

Hi Ma Larkin Sorry to hear that her wing will never be as good as new. The bullying I had with my Silkie has calmed down a lot. She is still very timid though. I have now made sure that within her pen that she always has an escape route. I have moved the coop into the centre of the pen. She can now ...

Good luck at the vets. Before your Silkie injured her wing, did you find that she got picked on. I have a gold sikie and for some reason one of the other birds has taken a real dislike to her. It has calmed down alot, but I wondered whether this was a commom problem. Your Silkie is fantastic. Jizzy
