Re: picked on lady

I don't have any ideas to add to the others really, but I do feel for you and for the poor little hen. The most important thing is that you care enough to be aware of it and you will always be looking out for her - that on it's own is clearly more than she was getting before. I have had hens which h...

Re: paper logs

I made loads and loads of these through the summer and dried them out in the greenhouse - glad I did now as our wood is a bit damp. Wish I'd made more. They are quite hard work, but once you get onto a roll with doing them, its not so bad. I was making 3 -4 a day on average from early spring through...

Re: Good way to make paper logs

I made hundreds of them through the summer and dried them out in the greenhouse - they've been brilliant this winter, as some of our wood was a bit damp. I thought I had made enough to last all winter, but wishing I had made more now!

Hens in Cardiff needing a new home

Hi all, I haven't posted on the Forum for ages, so hello again. As you probably know, I have 6 ex batteries - 2 from a rescue in 2007 and 4 from the North London Hen Rescue last summer. Unfortunately, family issues have rather taken over since the new year kicked in- and I have been back and forth t...

Bless you, it's always sad to lose one. We all loved to hear about him, he was a real character. He is in hen heaven now, ruling the roost I'm sure!xx

I know the feeling! I regularly go thru my 17 year old daughter's 'dirty' washing, and sneak loads of it into the ironing basket without washing it and then hang it back up in her wardrobe when she's in college - she never notices

I dust everything with diatom - put it on the floor of the coop, then sawdust and straw and then a coating of it on top of the straw - leave it a while before I let them back in though....so far haven't had any lice or red mite (eeek famous last words!)

Oh meanqueen, I know exactly how you feel. When I get up in the mornings lately, it feels like the world has forgotten to wake up cos it's so dark!! I can't bear it. I'm thinking about getting one of those daylight alarm clocks... I am outside every day - doing chooks, walking dog and walking to wor...

Shame on me, I spend a fortune on my hair......foils and cut at well known hairdresser in city centre....never tell my boyfriend quite how much it cost - I always manage to mumble the price! I smoke too, but never go out clubbing, or even to pubs really. Rarely go on hols abroad - just camping every...

Not sure, but a couple of weeks I think. You can tell if an egg is fresh or not - put it in water - if it sinks it's ok, if it floats, it's gone off

When I first had my ex batts, they free-ranged all day but they completely trashed (and I mean well and truly trashed) my garden. Now they stay in the pen all day and at weekends, or on a summer eve when I'm home from work, they get put on a fresh bit of lawn for a couple of hours, for a change of s...
