Re: Beef Cheeks. - Not for vegetarians...

Try this Orfy. Tongue needs to be pickled to be any good. 1 tbsp allspice 1.5pints beer 1.5 pints water 12oz sea salt 8 oz brown sugar, honey or treacle. Boil for 5 mins, remove allspice and allow to cool. Prick the tongue all over with a skewer and place in a cool place for 7 days covered with the ...

Re: New arrivals

It's good isn't it! Dad must've been a very busy boy. I only bid on them because It seemed daft putting on the incy for 6 Legbars eggs and no one wanted them. A couple of the blokes I was talking to thought Ixys were a hybrid.
I did a post mortem on the Leggy eggs and not one was fertile.

New arrivals

I've just had a load of chicks hatch out and I'm dead chuffed!! I put 12 Ixy and 6 CCL eggs in the incy and have just had all 12 Ixys hatch!. Unfortunately there were no CCLs which I have to put down to the eggs this time. Last time, I had a poor hatch rate because of humidity and thanks to the know...

Re: Do they really Care

As I said, MT marked the start of the rot and that no one since has done anything to redress the balance. My point is that whoever is in power, there is no difference ! Party politics aren't based on "what we can do" but on "what the other side won't do!" The Unions that MT tried...

Re: Do they really Care

I have very little regard for any political party. As far as I’m concerned, party politics has caused almost as much trouble as organised religion and both should be outlawed!! My argument really has little to do with party politics other than it was a Conservative government that started the rot. T...

Re: Neighbours and Chickens

...."How lovely you have chickens" then went on to tell me how her and her mum had kept them for years well i was flabergasted to say the least, hubby looked at me and grinned, so my point is you dont always get the responce you expect, we now chat on a daily basis she brings corn for the...

Re: Neighbours and Chickens

We sound very selfish don't we! My attitude is that if you live in a village you should expect village sounds and smells. A few years ago, some people bought a house next to a pig farm in the next village to us then complained about the smell and tried to get it closed down! We do have a rat problem...

Re: Neighbours and Chickens

The neighbours on one side of us are fine. They love the cockerel crowing as it reminds them of family. The other lot don't like the chooks. The crowing "gives her a migraine." Funny how the constant thumping dance music she plays doesn't! I'm expecting problems with them. In the deeds for...

Re: Dark/Black Comb

You could always fit them with little oxygen masks to go over the lifejackets to stop them drowning in open water containers!

Re: Do they really Care

My mum's family were miners and my Grandad died because of it as did my uncle. My Brother in law is also an ex miner and suffers from "miners' lung." So I can appreciate the reluctance of people to see the return of large scale mining. I firmly believe that there are "strategic indust...

Re: Do they really Care

None of the main parties are fit to govern. Today (update on the wind farm) we've had a leaflet from Labour claiming their campaign to stop everything to build 34 400ft turbines has worked and plans put on hold. Funnily, a week or so ago, we had a leaflet from the Conservatives crowing about how the...

Re: Bonfire night and fireworks

When they fly off to their daytime Lake nearby, the Chickens glue to the ground with the sound of their wings in the sky above. But night time, nothing seems to get them going. I suppose that's because they roost in safe places but are vulnerable from the air during the day. I've never known chooks...

Re: orange tomatoes

If you want good yellow tomatoes try "sungold", "golden sunrise" or my favourite "golden queen" Try the Garden Organics online catalogue for them, they have all sorts. I also grow one called "green grape" which ripens to a lovely sunny green.
