Recycling - is it always Eco friendly?

Just a thought but cleaning tins out, washing plastic containers out and rinsing cartons - all that water wasted. I just wonder how green is it? Probably not helped that I have just cut my fingers on the lid of a tin! Seriously though (going back to previous topic) our recycling is collected once a ...

Bees in chimney

Hello This time every year we get Bees in the chimney. Rightly or wrongly we lit the fire to get them to move on (we have a log burner) and although they became very active they are there again today. I worry about them coming into the house as we keep Guinea Pigs and a couple are old and blind - I ...

I have one that I assume doesn't know if she is Arthur or Martha and keeps mounting one partical hen - but perhaps I have misunderstood what was going on here!!

Re: shock!

That must have been awful but hopefully she will be ok. Sometimes when I watch our girls I wonder at how they dont get into more "situations". They just dont give things much thought before they just stick their head into something. I found one of ours next door the other evening and I hav...

Re: plum jam

You've all inspired me and thank you for the recipe MO. I have been saving my jars and will sterilise them but am def going to give it a go. I love homemade jams and marmalades and want to be able to make them myself.

Well I am unable to answer your question because I have never made any Jam - sorry, but I also have been given lots of plums and have been looking for a good recipe. Can I ask where you got yours from please?

Hello to you! Well I am not experienced enough to give you a comprehensive answer but I am sure as the day progresses you will have a good assortment of advise. All I can say is that they need ventilation so this would need to be thought about when they are in the shed - and you may need a gas mask ...

Re: Favourite homegrown crops for 2009

For us it was Figs, Summer Raspberries and Runner Beans. It was a good year for figs it seems. A neighbour also had the "best ones ever". We have alot to do as the paddock is now where the hens roam around as they please - but it was also where our vegetable area was and we miss it. Haven'...

Re: Worming / Flubenvet

I had the same question in (I think on 2nd/3rd) August (if you want to take a look). I used Flubenvent. It seems it will not stop you eating the eggs as long as it is used in the correct quantity. I had a best guess as how much dry food my girls eat each week (layers pellets and corn) - as it has to...

All done excellent! Now you just need to tackle the greenhouse and plan what's going in there.
