Re: Cadging

Oooh yes, although I don't call it cadging. Cadging has conotations of trickery, swindling other people out of something to me so I wouldn't use the same name but................ all my friends and family offer 'stuff' to me before they throw them away. They call me The Womble )t'

Re: Is there any point

The decision is never easy but when you keep animals, pets or livestock, you have to face it. I have kept chickens for a good few years and they don't live forever. So far we haven't 'done' vets for the chooks. In a way we have been fortunate in that when ours have got poorly, it has been obvious th...

Do you know a farmer? They can still buy it but are liable to prosecution for supplying it, should anyone find out.

Re: sad news

I am so sorry, this is a terrible thing to happen.

Do try not to blame the dog though, or even the owner. She was very brave to own up to what had happened, some may not have.

Re: Is anybody else late in starting?

Apart from onions, we haven't got started yet. Mind you, we are up in Yorkshire and we always have to add a few weeks before the growing season starts. All the books seem work on Southern England climate.

Re: A birthday bouquet

My son and his girlfriend bought me a felting kit for Christmas. I had never heard of it until then but I can't wait to have a go. I need a bit of spare time though, I can't wait.

I love what you have done, Stef. The flowers are lovely.

Re: Time for some action in the garden!

I've managed to dig up the remainder of my leeks this week, other than that my garden lies in waiting for better days to come.

If you are using Jeyes, be careful if you have cats and where the runoff will end up. It's not very environmentally friendly.

Re: Frugal Sewing

Car boot sales are advertised in our local paper or sometimes you see a sign advertising one outside schools or sports clubs. There is a regular one in our local town that runs all year round but it isn't up to much so we don't bother to go there. Car boot sale season is from April to September arou...

Re: 8 ft fences

I let mine free range and I have never had a fox attack during the daytime in more than ten years of chicken keeping. We are surrounded by farmland too and the fox population is kept down. Although there will always be a risk, it is a risk I am prepared to take. It is all down to what you feel comfo...
