3 Hens & 1 Bantam Seeking New Homes - North Somerset

I'm looking for loving new homes for 3 hens and 1 bantam. I have 2 black/white speckled Bantam Maran hens, 1 big black hen and 1 small white Cochin? Bantam, with feathered feet. They've been with me for a couple of years and I'm willing to rehome the white bantam separately with Bantams the same siz...

Re: Depressed Cream Legbar.

When I first got my 4 hens last year I also had a bullying problem. The biggest hen was picking on the Bantam. After one incident I removed the bullying hen and placed her in another coop at the end of the garden on her own for the night. I didn't like doing it but isolating the bully worked.

Re: Scaly Leg Mite - Best Treatment?

I went to my local animal feed store earlier in the week and bought some Scaly Leg Spray, which seems to be doing the trick. My hen is a lot more comfortable now and her leg is already looking better than it was. I treated all 4 hens on the same day (just in case). I need to spray her legs every 4-5...

Re: Scaly Leg Mite - Best Treatment?

I'll be interested if you managed to get some Benzyl Benzoate as I've just been to my chemist and there's a problem with it at the moment. They gave me some antibacterial wash instead so I'll have a go. I went to 2 different chemists this morning and have been informed that it's been discontinued. ...

Scaly Leg Mite - Best Treatment?

Hi all, I bought my first flock of 4 hens last summer and all has been ok until recently. I think one of them may have scaly leg mite. I noticed last week that the scales on one of my hens legs was slightly raised and the area was thickened. She seemed ok re. walking around. I did a bit of 'googling...

Re: The Name Game

My girls are called 'Lady CoCo' (because of her 'me first' attitude and demanding nature), Queen Victoria (a big black matronly looking hen who walks 'regally' around the run & garden), Speckle (the name speaks for itself) and Eggy (a little white bantam who is sooo cute and is in my avatar phot...

I've had 5 eggs from one of my girls in the past week, but I'd not had any eggs since last October when the clocks went back! It's good when they start to lay again, roll on spring! )c(

Awww, what a cute chook. She really looks at home 'perched' on the back of your chair.
