Re: Help to remove oil from driveway.

Coca Cola is still the best for the job, but it must be the genuine article. Dump a pile of sawdust on the stain and top up with Coke, leave for a few hours and then wash off with water.

Re: diy confusion

Mo,

He should have remembered to use duct tape!

Once his wife was securely fastened to a chair there would have been no way she could have flipped the switch.

Well done Stef!

After cleaning the crocks try soaking them in Hydrogen Peroxide to clean out the very small cracks.

Re: This Weekend's Car Boot Finds

Well done Happybob! Glad to see that there are still some of us bargain hunting stalwarts still out there. Over the last two weks I have picked an oil lamp (cranberry glass bowl) for a fiver, a Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner (Dyson clone) for two quid, and three Austrian copper pans (unused) for four qui...

My wife is Russian, and thererfore used to mushroom foraging, but she is canny. She sends me out with instructions to pick anything I find. Then she sorts through them and throws out all the poisoness one, I hope!!!

Re: Cleaning of bitumen from parquet.

The solvent is parafin or heating oil. If it is thickly pasted with the stuff you could heat it with a gas torch, and scrape off the majority, but do it carefully. Then clean the remainder with parafin. When you have finished wipe all over with thinners to completely degrease them. If you want to st...

Re: corrugated plastic ???

If you don't have a jigsaw you can use a hacksaw blade with tape around one end as a handle (the teeth cutting on the down stroke), but happybob is right. Use masking tape and draw the line on that, then cut through both. Slow and easy is the way, not hard jerky cuts as they will only crack the plas...

Re: rhododendron

Hi bmpsands! I used to have two acres of them and they can be a bit fussy. Once it has recovered (the end of next spring) you can prune it. The rule of thumb is: If it is rough barked you can prune it back hard and it will send out shoots all over the place, but if it is smooth barked you must only ...

Re: Car insurance etc.

I got £21 off my AA, £8.50 off my london hotel and £31 off my car insurance, and all these were above the official offers. I used a cashback site. I have been using them for more than 3 years and they have saved me a fair bit on shopping and travel, etc http://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/entrus10 Nick

Murphy's law of computing states that the day after you buy your machine, they announce a new one twice as good, at half the price.
