Re: Potatoes.Mine only went in yesterday. Ive decided on Anya this year. Normally I grow Pink Fir Apple but I couldn't get any from our local well known DIY store. Doesn't look like they are having any this year. Anya look very similar so I thought I'd try them. I know they are a little late but as I grow them i...
Re: Plastic GreenhousesI started off with one of the 2ft wide ones with a normal cover which lasted for one season, but I think that was only because I didnt take the cover off over winter. The following year I bought a 6x4 foot one with a re-enforced mesh cover on it. To this I added extra shelving made from canibalised ...

Ginger Beer et alHi all, I've recently started making my own ginger beer, in small quantities, a gallon at a time. I then bottle it in 500ml sparkling water bottles. I've tried variations on a basic recipe, adding a whole chilli is good. This gives just the right amount of kick. My latest batch has added lemongrass....

I am just in the process of cooking and pushing the cooked apples through a sieve. Has anyone else ever made Apple Cheese, or any other fruit cheese for th...
Frost proofing a fig treeHi all, not been on for a while. I have a small fig bush in a container too large to move. What is your method of insulati...
Re: First attempt at yogurt cheese todayI've just finished making a yogurt cheese using skimmed goats milk using the same methods I used in my previous post. 1 ltr of milk has made a cheese weighing about 110g (4oz).
I've added a little salt, chopped fresh parsley and garlic to this batch. Mmmmmmm.
Re: First attempt at yogurt cheese todayProbably the easiest and cheapest way to make yogurt is using the thermos flask method as described at this web sitehttp://www.greenfootsteps.com/how-to-make-yogurt.html
Re: First attempt at yogurt cheese todayFor those of you who wish to know how the yogurt cheese is made here goes. Firstly I am assuming that you already know how to make yogurt and have the equipment or your own method of making it. I use the large Easiyo yogurt maker but use milk instead of the flavoured milk powders from the maker. Put...

Re: First attempt at yogurt cheese todayHow is it likely to kill anyone? I'd would think your friends attempts would be more likely to end in illness.
The method has been used by many people on the internet and in recipe books I've read. As far as I know they are all still alive.
Re: First attempt at yogurt cheese todayAny suitable fresh herbs can be added. Chives, tarragon, mint or how about borage or salad burnet.
Fresh ground black pepper would be nice also. I'm going to have fun experimenting now I know my method works.
First attempt at yogurt cheese todayI made yogurt cheese for the first time today. I started out making yogurt but decided to go one step further and see how it turned out. It was a success and I have ended up with a mild cream cheese which tastes rather good. I have no special cheese making equipment apart from my easyo yogurt maker,...
Re: sour-dough breadI made my first sourdough loaf last week after seeing Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall's programme on TV. 3 days after starting the sourdough culture it was good to go. I cheated on the first attempt and put the mixture in the breadmaker up to the dough stage. I put the dough to rise on the top of the ov...
