lovely job Brian.
I can only add maybe a piece of paving slab on top of nesting box or a lock, just so Mr Fox had no chance of lifting the lid up with his nose and getting in..

Re: PURPLE comb & wattlePurple comb does suggest a difficulty in breathing and lack of oxygen. When it has happened to my girls it has been a problem with impacted crop. Live maggots sorted it as they eat their way through the impacted food and free the problem. I get my maggots from a fishing tackle shop..
Re: What shall I put in the new run?Hi Brian My girls love logs to hop on and every month I turn over the loose logs to expose lice etc.. Tyre filled with sand is always used and I also use those fat ball feeders and hang them stuffed with cabbage leaves or apple slices, in summer I pick dandelions and stuff the full with the leaves t...
Re: preparing for new girlsBest wishes from me too on the introductions, you are obviously well prepared
Re: Ex Batts and Posh GirlsDitto the above.
It's not easy integrating new girls, best to get them all at the same time
Re: Chickens waking earlyOne of my coops is a 6x4 resin shed with a window and I have painted the window so no light can get in.
Re: DaktarinGood luck with the Daktarin with your poorly girl, assume she has sour crop. Hope she gets better.

It is very hard when you loose a girl so you here is a hug

To keep the...
Re: Pecking order Bless you Sandy, just been working hard, decided that's too boring, rather talk chickens!
Re: Pecking orderMy thoughts would be to make it nice and dark, I have a window in mine which I have painted. They may settle quicker and snuggle down together keeping nice and warm.
Re: what do you do with your hens that have diedI bury my girls in the run, that way they always stay together as a flock and there is no danger of them being dug up. They all are wrapped in a white sheet, with a bouquet of seasonal flowers and a token of their favourite food....it's quite a ceremony, we have lost 10 ex batt girls over the last 3...
Re: I'm concerned can anyone helpChickens love pasta and spaghetti is quite hilarious to watch them 'share'.
However pasta is not protein, it is carbs. Good protein is mealworms, tuna fish, pilchards, mealworms, fishy catfood......
Re: Stopping them getting bored for 5 minutes..picsWeather permitting I'm going to clear up my leaves and give the girls a treat tomorrow, hope they have the same fun as your girls have appreciated.
