Re: Skyline egg (It's news folks!)

They do look very nice It is weird, but for some reason I cannot bring myself to eat any of my hens eggs yet. Did anyone else have that problem? I have given them all away to my son and my mum Earlier as I was telling my mum about how badly battery farm hens are treated and that they are slaughtered...

Re: Silly question - how do you tell them apart?

Where do you get these rings from and is there a certain size you have to get? Also are they easy to put on the hens +confused+

Re: Video of my hens venturing into the garden

great video mercedes, your girls look quite confident. one question, where is the nest box and how do you retrieve the eggs if you don't mind me asking? The nest box is inside the coop on the right hand side as you look at the coop from the front. You remove the panel on the side to access the nest...

Re: Video of my hens venturing into the garden

Aww bless them. They don't look too bad. A few months of good food and freedom and they will be plump little chooks. Wendy The way they are getting through food I'm sure they'll be very plump little chooks I have now put another bowl in the run as I noticed a couple of the hens being pushed away fr...

Do Chickens Pee

Sorry for the stupid question. Now I know that parrots poo and pee at the same time and I assumed that all birds did. However I have noticed a couple of my hens do a poo and then a few minutes later they seem to have a gush of clear liquid come out of their vent too. It isn't the runs as I think tha...

Re: We've lost poor Olive

I am sorry to hear that you lost Olive. I would be angry at the breeder too as she obviously didn't do her job properly. I'm amazed she had the nerve to charge you at all considering what happened. I've very new to hens myself so can't offer any advice about integrating your new hen but I do hope it...

Re: Video of my hens venturing into the garden

We haven't had any problems getting them back into the run, in fact they just go back there of their own accord. I think they know the run and coop is where they live and if anything spooks them, like a bird making a noise overhead or a neighbour suddenly deciding to mow their lawn, they seem to go ...

Re: safe eggs?

I'm sure the eggs are fine. From what I know of ex batts, of which I have recently acquired 4, they are Warren hens and the eggs from them would be the ones on sale in the supermarket, but as they have been out of the farm for so long they will probably be laying far tastier eggs than the supermarke...

Re: The Disappearing Egg

Don't want to scare you Merc, but the worst scenario is when you put your hand in and a rat jumps over it straight into your body It's happened to me way more than once !! Richard Yikes that sounds awful Richard I know we get rats around here as we have a brook running along the back of our road so...

Re: My first question, help please!

Well I'm not surprised you fall asleep so early with all the hens you have, plus a young child and dogs too!

I go back to bed for awhile in the morning and yet I still manage to fall asleep in front of the TV in the evenings :?

Re: My first question, help please!

I am back in bed with my cup of tea already, it's one thing getting up early to let them out and feed them, but quite another to actually stay up :-D
