Thank you for your swift responses. If there are unhatched eggs by day 22/23 should I remove them?

Hatched egg, do I need to help?

I've not been on here for a while now. All is good with my small flock. We had a couple of unexplained losses over the winter. Sad but the 6 girls we have are happy now and laying well. Belle, the silkie is sitting on eggs I bought fertilised. Today is the 21st day and, yes, we have 1 chick this mor...

Re: Life expectancy of chickens?

Thank you for your replies. We would never dream of getting rid of them when they stop laying; they are part of the family and I thank them for every egg! We would like to continue getting eggs indefinitely and as our run can only house max. 8 hens I was trying to think sensibly. I could always incr...

Re: What are they doing

There is not really a submisive one. They spend most of their day together happily with only the occasional spat. The seabright is best friends with one of the hens the pekin is ignored by both hens! The girls are definaltely in charge! Im really cross with the breeder for telling us they were hens....
