Re: Egg Laying ?

I thought too that the girls would slow down with their eggies during winter, however our Elsie laid her very first egg on the 19th December, in thick snow and Hilda laid her first egg at New Years weekend! All our girls are hybrid girls, does this affect things do you think? Our Dottie, the eldest ...

Re: How do you treat your ladies (chickens)?

Ooooh I only ever give treats in the afternoon, to encourage the girls to eat their layers pellets When it was cold with the snow, I made them porridge oats with warm water, sultanas, honey and whatever vegetables I have to hand (though not potatoes or carrots). They absolutely love banana, skin and...

Looking forward to following your progress throughout 2011. I'm hoping to do more veggies in the garden this year too.

Re: Frugal family examples

When we were kiddywinks, we were always in the kitchen with Mum and so my brother and I can both cook - I'm nearly 40 I regularly batch cook foods from scratch to put in the freezer for a later date, soups, sauces, stews etc. Also if I make a roast dinner, I'll box any leftovers up - they make a gre...

Re: Is Egg And Rain OK

Thanks Steve, that's good to know. I must have been quick off the mark in collecting eggies sometimes, as I've noticed the wet thing you mentioned. I'd never use any cleaning solutions as the shell is pourous and it'd flavour the lovely egg! Only sometimes a quick rinse. You really learn things ever...
