Re: Free range good home waiting in west wales for any girlsHi Karen, thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. Most of my chooks have come from the BHWT and I love em and will definately get some more. But just thought I'd put the offer on the forum initially just in case anyone needed to rehome their ladies for whatever reason, I really hope thats ho...
Free range good home waiting in west wales for any girls thaI've recently extended my chook palace and have space for another 4 to 6 girls. Don't mind any breed, any age and dont mind if they're laying or not just want to watch them scratch around and enjo themselves. So if anyone needs to rehome their girls please let me know. Thanks
Re: Big Lump?Dear All,
Just to say all the advice offered was spot on, as you were all correct my Bluebell is not deformed it was the impacted crop. She is my greediest chook so I'll keep ann eye on her. Thanks again for the advice and saving me the cost of the vet... I love this forum.
Re: Hens in winterHi Mike, They say a problem shared is a problem halved so why don't you share some of your "problem" with the chooks to keep them warm at night....whoops sorry highly inappropriate! Seriously though Mike, we only got our chooks a year ago last summer and like you I was worried about keping...
Re: Big Lump? Thanks for the advice will try all suggested including the live maggots (yuk).
I feel a bit daft now as I was going down the road of diagnosing a cancerous tumour....watching too many TV hospital dramas I fear, Thanks again all.
Big Lump?Hi there, Just asking if anyone has experienced this one before? I've noticed my seemingly happy Bluebell, who gives me an egg a day, looking a bit lopsided. On closer inspection she apperas to have a lump the size of a large apple on her left breast side. If I was to guess it seems to be a tumour a...
Re: Egg eating caused by stress? Thanks guys for the advice, will look into roll away nest boxes if it continues. I thought perhaps as the chooks are moulting and I'm only getting 1/2 per day
that might also be the cause? Anyway thanks again I knew I could rely on the Forum it's better than any reference book.
Egg eating caused by stress?Hi there, Got a bit of a problem with egg eating. A few weeks ago something took my big bluebell (I'm convinced it was a buzzard) which left the remaining chooks so terrified they wouldn't come out of the coup for THREE days. Since then every morning at 6am I find a half eaten egg on the coup floor....
Re: Hens needing loving home-Vale of GlamorganHi Linda, I can honestly say your ladies are living the dream.......I've popped in to see Kay and Chris a few times and they are the most caring chook owners I've ever come across, infact I've booked myself in for a holiday as well. Really glad everything turned out well for everyone.
Re: Missing ChookIt's 6.15am and I'm up and dressed and off to go searching for my Bluebell in the vain hope she might have survived the night. We do have a neighbour a field away who has a lively cockeral so I will go and investgate (even though she's none too friendly and I'm a coward) I've had the two Blubells fo...
Missing ChookHi there, I've spent a miserable afternoon searching for one of my chooks so I'm sadly assuming a fox has possibly had her. But my friend thought the fox would probably have taken more than one and possibly killed some of the others, does anyone think thats true. I'm terrified if it's a fox it will ...
Re: Hens needing loving home-Vale of GlamorganHi there, It's me again. I've just spoken with my friend, Kay and she is very interested and would very much like to discuss with you the possibility of offering your chooks a new home. She has had chickens before some years ago so she knows whats involved. If you're still looking for a home would y...
Re: Hens needing loving home-Vale of GlamorganHi there, I've just read your post and might be able to help. I know of a lady in our local village who said to me last week she was keen to have some chooks but funds were a bit tight so was having to wait until she could afford to build/buy a coup. I will tell her tomorrow about your offer and how...
Re: Spotting RedmiteThanks for the advice as this my first experience (probably not my last I suspect) of these horrible mites. Did the paper towel test as advised and found it stained red, yuk yuk, yuk. Can't stop itching now. And caught the chooks before letting them out and have given them the treatment and yep lots...
Spotting RedmiteI know this is probably another daft question, but can you actually see a redmite infestation on the hens? I've been reading aother posts about red mite infestations so I've doused the coup and have checked chooks as far as possible (can't blooming well catch em though as they can out run this middl...
