Re: Really need some help regarding Poppy

I don't think it is rude to ask to see a specific vet Lisa, I do that as one of our vets is great with poultry but her colleagues are not so knowledgeable. But then, one of the other vets is the one I choose to see with my cats, it doesn't seem to cause a problem. I hope your poor little girl is bet...

Any Poland keepers out there?

I could really use some help with a little Poland I have please. Potted history. She was bought with three other hens, all different types by one of my neighbours. From the start the other hens picked on her. She was given to another neighbour with a much bigger run in the hope she would settle. 4 r...

Re: Scorpion saw?

Well, I've had a few uses for the scorpion since I posted and although I haven't cut the hedge down yet, the saw has been brilliant. I was especially impressed when I needed to cut through some metal tubing. It would have taken me forever with the manual hacksaw but the scorpion handled the job very...

Re: Bedding

I use dust extracted wood shavings and straw in the coop though ... then I go and puff DE through it !!!!! I'm so glad to know it isn't just me who wonders about doing this I use a good layer of wood shavings in the coop and the covered run. The plastic open weave nest boxes (converted school gym b...

Re: My Exbatt has gone Broody

Wow!

What would happen if she was allowed to sit on some infertile eggs until she gave up herself? You'd need to make sure she ate, drank and pooped daily.

Are their many down sides (apart from not laying) to letting a hen just sit if she wants to?

Re: I feel awful!

I'm glad all of the naughty stoppy outers are ok I did the same on Sunday night. I'd spent the day putting perspex over the cage bit of their dog run so they had a dry place to feed and was still finishing of when they queued up to go to bed. Polly is usually first in, so when I counted the rest in ...

Re: the weather is been bad

Building rubble is our friend There were old stone and brick buildings on my allotment but they have long since tumbled down and a layer of soil and weeds accumulated over the top. It drains beautifully! The result is that the girls have a nice dry earth mound to tramp around on. I've placed the run...

Re: Another Run question.

Mine are choosy about the grass! Lawn grass is gone in no time, but the wild grasses have survived their attentions quite well in part of their run. Sorry, haven't got a clue how much space they have in bits of an acre terms. Best survivors are nettles and thistles. The girls rummage under the nettl...
