Re: Charlie, and the chicks.

Thank you everyone.

We are quite taken with them ;-) If he does ring, we don't hear him, but my youngest does, her room is closest to the coop, and she comes through to tell us he's awake! :-)

Re: DTL link on my website - what do you think?

Good site. Might be a good idea to PM Richard about the use of his heading though, he's the best one to advise about links I PM'd him weeks ago, to ask permission. I think he's going to send me a better picture when he gets a second. Does anyone else find that the pictures are a bit slow to load, o...

Re: Having the worst time

Oh Lisa, I just want to give you the biggest cuddle! You really do seem to have rotten luck with your poorly hens. I'm so angry on your behalf that the breeder is being so awful. Whereabouts are you? I seem to remember you being somewhere north/east ish? If you can make it over to Fleetwood, then Ha...

Re: DTL link on my website - what do you think?

Thanks so much for the feedback everyone. The DTL banner is a bit make-do-and-mend, and it's pinched straight from here, with a snipping tool that my DH found for me. I can easilly swap it though - if anyone has a better one? I want DTL to be really prominent, because there is so much more info and ...

DTL link on my website - what do you think?

Right, after a lot of huffing and puffing, and help from my DH, I have finally managed to get a more professional looking link to DTL on my website. I've also included lots of text link to different pages (wing clipping and foxes, and possibly some others) as well as a text link to the forum. I'd re...

Re: Integrating new chickens - when to relax?

Thanks everyone, It seems to be going quite well, and we've had our first eggs from the newbies! (I had forgotten how tiny the first eggs are!) there is still a bit of scrapping going on, and although it can look horrific, and a few girls are missing a couple of feathers, there is no sign of any inj...

Re: Selling Eggs

Hello, I sell mine at £1.50 for 6, and then 15p each after that - but people would pay more, like others have said, demand far outstrips supply! I buy my own egg boxes, I collect them, from the same place I buy all my feed (and stuff) from, and they work out at about 3p each, I also get the cardboar...

Re: to hot to push?

Yes BTB, Assuming you hadn't missed the cold one from earlier, this means she laid two in, perhaps, 8 hours or so, which my books tell me is too short a time. I would still love to know exactly how the shell is formed - they are so perfect 99/100 A Laner attached an interesting article a couple of ...

Re: Bedding question

Could you ask the new shop people to put it into your car for you, and then ask a neighbour to help you unload? I've found that people will do almost anything for a box of lovely fresh eggs! I often leave things in my car until I need them (I've had a 20kg bag of layer's pellets in my boot for a wee...

Re: Wing clipping - What are your views?

If its done correctly wing clipping doesn't hurt the chook - though as has been said, a determined hen will escape somehow.. Personally I wouldn't clip wings. I clipped our ducks wings one year and the next day a fox got two of them.. They would have been able to escape had they been able to fly. S...

Re: to hot to push?

Yes, we had a 7pm egg last night, which I think I am correct in saying is the first pm egg ever. I had a word with the hen and she said it was a bank holiday so if I wasn't doing much in the morning then she wouldn't either. Cheers I think I've had late at night eggs too. I've had 2 eggs (from my 3...

Re: to hot to push?

I think elderly hens lay when they want to, and it's not unusual for them to miss a day or two. I only got 2 eggs today, rather then 3 (and we are also on our 3rd hot day) so maybe it is down to the weather, but as long as they don't seem upset, or poorly, they are probably just enjoying the sunshin...
