Re: what is it ?I think they're seet peppers, they're the wrong shape for jalapenos.
Re: Am I expecting too much ?Cauliflowers are notoriously dificult to grow, so dont despair :) One month of high summer weather followed by a month of cold put paid to a lot of stuff this year, but that's the way it goes sometimes. Last year I spent nearly every waking moment in the garden and the polytunnel, I was absolutely c...

Re: growing cucumbersthe bottom leaves going grey and dusty is powdery mildew i think, not fatal, just take the leaves off. The same thing usually happens to courgette plants.
Re: Seedsyou won't know unless you find the variety on the net and check to see if it's f1 or not.

Re: Potato blightnot me, but i've read about the exploits of people who have. I managed to get one tiny 'apple' from a pink fir apple plant this year, so I'll try it next year. You get a respectable amount from a morrisons bucket, which you can then use as seed potatoes the next year. Apparently, they're a completel...
Re: Pumpkin in pots!what you can do if you're not getting both flowers open at once, get a paintbrush or a soft brush, swish it inside the male one, put it in a bag, wait for the female one to open, swish it round the female one. It's worth a go....it's only a thought though, not a tried and tgested method :)

You either have to net them, or check every day for little white or yellow patches of eggs and squish them. You'll end up with nothing if you don't because caterpillars are ravenous little so-and-so's, they ate an entire [pre-netted] kale plant ...
Re: The price of printer ink cartridges...if it's only black on white paper, print one, take it to your nearest photocopy shop, the more you get, the cheaper it is, and they'll re-size to fit 2 or 4 on an A4 sheet.
