Re: Chris Elliott 2015 Grow DiaryThe greenhouse is now getting a bit full, everything has sprouted apart from the pumpkins but they are old seeds so I think I better buy some new ones. I removed a shed load of slugs and snails from the greenhouse this morning, haven't done a major de-slug in a couple of weeks and have lost a couple...
Re: Chris Elliott 2015 Grow DiaryLettuces and cabbages are coming on well, I've removed the poly tunnel and did have a bit of a slug problem. I've ended up using some slug pellets which says it isn't toxic to the veggies so I'm hoping its safe to use for the wildlife. http://i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd462/Stoker1/photo%201_zpse...
Re: Chris Elliott 2015 Grow DiaryI've now started to plant out some cabbages and lettuces, one row of red cabbage, one row on green cabbages and a row of lettuces. Hopefully they will be protected from the slugs and snails in their poly tunnel. http://i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd462/Stoker1/photo%201_zpsprp3m3rs.jpg http://i1221...
Re: Chris Elliott 2015 Grow DiaryToday I have converted these old wine boxes into some hanging strawberry planters, just a bit of multi purpose compost and a sprinkling of dried chicken poo pellets to get them started, e http://i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd462/Stoker1/photo%203_zpsh4ys4j4i.jpg http://i1221.photobucket.com/albums/...
Re: Chris Elliott 2015 Grow DiaryMy Alicante tomatoes have finally sprouted along with a few cauliflowers but the January King Cabbages havn’t done so well but the seeds are at least five years old so maybe that’s wht they haven’t grown http://i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd462/Stoker1/photo%205_zps1b8dvyfb.jpg These cabages and sp...
Re: Chris Elliott 2015 Grow DiaryHey Thanks for the feedback everyone. Mrs Boodles, yeah I think it's a matter of keep patching it up and weighing the whole thing down so it doesn't wander off, I did have to wedge my wheely bin against it yesterday so hopefully that does the trick. Billnorfolk I'll definitely try the straw idea, wh...
Chris Elliott 2015 Grow DiaryA month or so ago I bought myself a portable greenhouse 144CM X 144CM which I thought was a good bargain on eBay but after some windy conditions the plastic cover split at the seams and I lost all my seedlings but nothing that a bit of clear exterior gaffa tape couldn't fix so I started again by sow...
Re: Simple Tasty Chook Health TreatHey guys, Thought I'd let you know my girls are now almost fully refeathered and are looking great, I'm still giving them their spice treat once a day and it's been amazing seeing some of their feathers form literally over night. They're still laying everyday but I'm going to wean them off the layer...
Re: Simple Tasty Chook Health Treat That sounds really good. In fact, forget the chooks - that sounds good enough to eat ourselves! I might have a go at that. My girls love oats and banana, and the odd dip of yoghurt. Could add some mash to it too. What's the poultry spice pellets you've got? Yeah mash would be good way to go too The...
Simple Tasty Chook Health TreatHi guys, A couple of my chooks started to go through a molt which isn't the best time as it's very nippy now. So I've come up with a tasty poultry spice recipe which is doing wonders for my chooks in such a short space of time with their feather regrowth and general health that I plan to continue th...

Re: Mud and RainMy chooks have a parasol in their pen so they have shade in the summer and shelter if it gets too wet for them but they never seem fussed about the rain and love scratching around for the juicy worms the rain brings They look like some sort of alien when their wet but they don't care http://i1221.ph...
Re: Broody Chicken with Duck EggsI just had a really strange experience with the chooks, I was out in the garden snapping away at the duckies when mum started making a deep growl like sound and looked up, immediately the duckies looked up, followed mum and all three cowered into the coop not making a single noise which is weird bec...
Re: Members Pets and Wildlife Photo's (Not chickens!)I have a Silver Spotted Bengal named Stoker who is three years old now The first piccy below is when he was six weeks old and the second piccy around a year old so he's grown a bit since that last photo. He's a house cat but has escapaed on a few occasions and terrorised the chooks, he's super intel...
Re: Broody Chicken with Duck EggsI've just been out with the camera taking some snaps of the duckies, interesting to see how much they grow and how fast I haven't put them with the other chooks yet, anyone know how long before I can put them together? The other chooks can see mum and the duckies so they're getting to know each othe...
