Re: feather's breaking off That would explain it then....if you mix some chick crumb in with the layers (don't just feed chick crumb as it doesn't have a high enough calcium content) but the chick crumb has a higher protein content so a handful with the feed ...easier way of adding protein ..or as I said there are other ways...
Re: feather's breaking off I've got to say I think that looks like feathers getting pulled so I suspect you either have a hen who feels they are missing something and they are eating the feathers to get it or you've a hen being bullied by one of the others. Often when hens are regrowing plumage they need extra protein so add...
