Re: Helen's plot

It all seems to be coming together nicely there Helen. Sympathised when you said about your soil. My parents used to be the same but you've cracked the hard bit and keeping it compact with your planting so I think you will have some great veg this year. As I was told just go for it and plant/grow wh...

Re: Debs 2013 (i hope something grows)GYO/allotment diary

I've picked my first 'produce' today, some lovely rhubarb off the plot. Not only that i noticed some greenery in the half built greenhouse, and i found some potatoes growing i planted ages ago, i thought they were dead! Plus i found some strawberries in there too, so i repotted them into a hanging ...

Re: Stewart's Allotment Diary 2013

Well I am hoping they go like stink Annie. Got 24 planted. Weather has been very very wet down here this week. Battery warning light kept coming on last night on drive home - water getting in and aqua planeing on motorway. Quite a bit colder this week but not too bad. Its the wind more than anything...

Re: A bank and ground cover suggestions

Osteospermum is lovely plant but not good ground cover by way of blocking other weeds out as spruots from the one root and things like grass grow through. Some of the tougher and vigourous alpines are good like the saxifrages and trailing saxefrages. Also aubretia works well especially allong a wall...

More green sprouting, french beans and about 6 runner beans. Just corgettes and tomatos left to sprou.

Well Saturday was too busy to get down there, but we did manage a couple of hours on Sunday. Kids are getting a bit bored of us digging so might have to change the way we work as still half to dig. They like to plant and do. Finished the digging right up to the Raspberry canes and dig a jig to celeb...

Re: Stewart's Allotment Diary 2013

We seem to have had a phantom strimmer and burner! I knew the committee had been tidying vacant plots by ploughing them to encourage someone to take them. But it appears someone got a bee in their bonnet about the weeds left on ours we hadn't got to Sometimes it's difficult to know if someone had a...
