Re: AnnieG's Veggie Patch 2014I decided to use the old chicken coop in to a planter for the peas.. It turned out quite well too. My arms ached like mad after and my thumb was killing me all night last night, but it was worth it. http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd505/Hester56/planter1.jpg http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/d...
Re: Are Azaleas and Rhododendrons poisonous to chickens?I have Rhododendron, boxwood, foxglove and Honeysuckle in my garden but they don't go near them. I will fence them off now though.
Re: AnnieG's Veggie Patch 2014The change of planned worked out quite well. We're not gardeners or slab layers but I think we did a good enough job on the Little corner I was going to have as a garden. We slabbed it, not the right way but it looks good and I now have my own little area that the grandkids can't get to. The cats ca...
Re: The Great Egg's Chicken AdventuresBrilliant start to your diary GreatEgg. I love all the piccies. Beautiful girls too. Can't wait for your next instalment. xx
Re: Bill's 2014 Garden DiaryWell done Bill. You won't go hungry this year. I've been watering carrots (the only thing I put in the ground) but I suspect I'm watering weeds really.
Your garden looks good.
Re: AnnieG's Veggie Patch 2014I've put some seeds in pots and to keep them out of harms way I've popped them into the unused chicken coop/run. It will surfice for now. I realised I didn't have a watering can or a rose for the hose so I had to improvise. Upcycling at it's best... http://i1223.photobucket.com/albums/dd505/Hester56...
Re: AnnieG's Veggie Patch 2014Big change of plan! I've decided now to slab the area in the pics and plant in pots instead. That area might not look very big but for me it is and I know I'll be a bit overwhelmed by it all so... I got a 120ltr bag of compost and collected up all my pots and today I'm going to plant veg seeds in po...
Re: Annie's Girls.:( No pallets until next week as the man with the van hasn't got the van, so no run building yet. Oh well, never mind, I'll get on with some slabbing instead. We've been offered all the tools we need so I don't have to buy any. That'll save a few bob to put towards other stuff needed. I let the girl...
Re: More thoughts on compacted cropManda. I need to worm mine but they are ex barn/cage and only 21/22 weeks old. Would they have been done already and if so how long should I leave it before doing them again?
Re: More thoughts on compacted cropNo idea Chookmike but I often have one girl with a full crop while the other two have empty ones. I think the full crop one is just a bit greedy, she is twice the size of the other two and there is always plenty of food to go round. They free range so maybe it's something my girl likes to eat from t...
Re: Bye Bye Elizabeth ;(Such a sad thread. :(
Re: Coop adviceHave fun Drumstick. Looking forward to the pics.
Re: Annie's Girls. Thanks Sandy, I will. The girls have been very quiet today, I think it might be the warmer weather. I hope they cope ok in the hot summer. Hester chased Stanley up the garden path this morning. Poor Stan. He stood in the door way shivering like a jelly. And Annie shooed a pigeon out of the garden. T...
Re: Annie's Girls.Do I need this...

Re: Coop adviceOne more thing I've just noticed too. where is the nesting box? It looks like they nest right below those high perches. And I think those perches are a bit too high. Just my thoughts though.
