Thanks Amber
They were actual x-rays - Ashley showed me them on screen and talked me through what we were looking at, I paid £101.80. The reassurance that it wasn't anything we were doing in keeping them, was worth it. We always question ourselves xx

Oh my word - how long has it been! Such a lot of heartache this year. Little Mo went downhill and very poorly. PTS in May this year. August - Spooky poorly. Spooky had x-ray and Ashley saw there was almost no substance to her bones, bits of shell in her abdomen and fluid everywhere. August - Tracy p...

So, its just over a week since the new girls arrived. These are really quite big girls in varying degrees of baldness. As always, seeing them "settling in" made me extremely anxious - pecking, chasing, pulling feathers, blood on combs.....they seem now to be getting on ok. They still have ...

Fortuitously, I received an email on Monday from BHWT asking if I could rehome some caged hens. So we are having a further 4 on Saturday from Ashbourne. Crumb ordered, just need to reattach the coup to the run, where I had cleaned it out when the girls moved in with the big girls Little Mo is doing ...

Spooky is definitely moulting, when she runs she leaves behind a trial of feathers! yesterday when I stroked her, she screamed! Her temperament has definitely changed. MoMo is still doing well and running round the garden after me, as usual. Specs I think is trying to remember how to lay eggs as I h...

Lovely weekend with the girls out in the garden, especially yesterday - we were all sitting in the sunshine. Me reading and the girls sunbathing! Spooky may be giving up laying for the winter, but she does look abit untidy with her feathers, so it could be moulting. Not a full, chuck all her feather...

Little Mo's tum has gone down. When I spoke to Ashley (my vet) he said to take her off the painkillers and monitor her. So have done. She is running round, back to herself. Specs - all her feathers are growing back through the purple spray, but her undercarriage feels spiky. Spooks is now under the ...

Little Mo - her comb has now started to shrink...she doesn't seem to be "suffering" but doesn't like these early mornings! Specs - Tuesday lunchtime I caught someone pecking her bald back, so straight out with the purple spray. Unfortunately, the nozzle was blocked and I had to go back to ...

Thanks Karen - that's a lovely way of thinking about it. Little Mo has been running around the garden over the weekend, as fast as she can, complete with wings flapping! She has started being sneaky with her meds though, holding it in her beak until OH lets go, then shaking it all over me! Little mo...

Little Mo stopped laying 2 days before I found her belly was swollen. Straight to the vets, who confirmed eyp - she has been on Loxicom and Baytril for 7 days, but she is not getting better. We are going to keep her as comfortable as possible. But.... She was one of the first rescues and we have had...

so after the heartbreak over Texas and Queenie - as Little Mo had taken to sleeping in the next box - this left Specs on her own on the perches. As the cold weather was coming, we started bundling the other three into the main coup in the dark. We did this for 2 nights and then I locked the door for...

I miss her so much - she has been with us from the beginning, along with Texas. There is only Specs left of our first girls. Such a big gap she has left She was such a gentle, friendly girl, who always looked after the ex-batts that we brought in - protecting them from the others. She got her name a...

Queen has been back with the others since last Thursday. I have seen her eating the crumb that she should be doing, but I have seen her (and the others) eating bits of straw that fall out when I open a new bag. Saturday cleaning out! She has not been in the garden, nor eaten grass, or any treats sin...
