Not strictly chickens but..

With all the social problems around us, the East Riding of Yorkshire County Council can still find the time to worry about this: APOLOGY FOR DUCK FEED JAIL THREAT. A council has apologised after threatening elderly residents with eviction and even prison for feeding ducks outside their homes. Letter...

Deterring foxes...

Having browsed the forums, and leaning towards organic solutions, I decided human urine would be the best fox deterrent. So... There I am in the darkness on the coop roof when I hear suspicious noises below.. Having fortified myself with several pints of Guinness I silently stood up and lowered my (...

Mid air collision!

With all the rain in the last few days the girls haven't been able to get out as usual, but tonight they made the most of it. Marge ran down from one end and took off for a low level pass just as Cilla decided to buzz the control tower from the opposite end, the look on their faces just before conta...

Hi P.penn (Please give us a real name I feel a bit foolish calling you this ) I think the lying down position you refer to is what I call the Oh S**t! position.. This occurs when they feel threatened by something bigger than themselves and they crouch down with their wings half spread whilst thinkin...

Hi Kieva, And welcome, we're not xenophobes on here. I think the only people to be shunned on this site would be what we call battery farmers. Regarding rearing for eating, if you can do it then go for it. I eat chicken still, but ensure it is free range. The only problem I can see is that you may f...

Just been down to the coop and lo and behold - 2 eggs )c(
..Laid outside of the nest box where Marge has cleared the bedding..
To make it more impressive one was normal size and one was 80 BLOOMING GRAMMES!!
It won't even fit in the egg box.
Now that has got to have made her cross- eyed!

I don't think the rubber egg would work,Marge has been in the nest box when another egg was in there (Ileft it in the nest for a couple of hours to give her the right idea). I'd opened the coop to collect the egg and Marge barged in to check I wasn't making a mess and had a scrat around in the nest ...

So far Marge (who has just started laying) has laid eggs on the floor of the run, one on the poo shelf overnight and her best yet was teatime yesterday when she nipped under the gate into the passage, by the time I had opened the gate she had literally dropped an egg - obviously without squatting as...
