Re: Kitty's hatching adventureWhat great news that all the babies have found new homes, and particularly that they can stay together (except Curly, who sounds happy to be heading up his own harem) I can't give you any suggestions for stopping your other greedy girls getting in the way of Goldy and Brown. Are they separate at all...
Re: Advice neededThat is really good news Davina. What a lucky, lucky girl! Thank goodness you spotted her when you did.
Re: New to chickenHi Johny Welcome from me as well. For bedding, I use straw (Don't use hay) which works fine. I lay shredded paper on the bottom and top with straw. Some people use auboise or easibed but I suppose it depends what you can get over there. Straw works fine for me and it can be composted. They cope fine...
Re: My chucks, by Pegasus.7 metres? You won't even need to leave your armchair!
My poor girls were so shocked when I squirted them, and my slow reactions meant that I was pretty rubbish at it. I did squirt Cassie right up the ***, she didn't half shift!
Re: New Chicken Keeper with lots of worries!I would worm sooner rather than later, especially if you think they haven't been wormed. One of my recent ex batts had a worm infestation and she'd only been with me a couple of weeks, so I didn't think I'd need to worm her this quickly. But I did - and flubenvet is definitely the one to use. I use ...
Re: When chickens turn on another....Hi It's possible that Matilda's moult has kick started it - if she's feeling ill (and they do when they moult) she's likely worrying about keeping her place in the pecking order (the temptation for the others to take advantage of her while she's out of sorts) which may be causing the bullying behavi...
Re: My chucks, by Pegasus. You could always try a water pistol or squished if things get bad, that might help to teach Snowy to stop being so bad with the others. I used one when my little bottom hen Gabby was being picked on. It does at least put a stop to the bad behaviour for a while although you will need to be persistent...
Re: Sandy's Pink LadiesGoodness me, the state those poor girls are in! What can we do when we can't even recommend free range eggs anymore? you should post on the fb site to, we could spread the word. Disgraceful. They must feel so uncomfortable with worms and all. I bet they can't believe where they've ended up, it must ...
Re: Off to rainbow bridge StewSo sorry to hear about little Stew. Pets bring so much, that's why it's so hard when they leave us.
Take care
Re: Poorly BrendaSo sorry to hear about Brenda. Three years is a great time out of the cages, I bet she was a very happy girl in those 3 years. She certainly looks a stunner.
Re: Sleeping anywhere but on perches!!I've had chickens for a few years now and they've never perched, they always sleep squashed into nest boxes or snuggled up in straw on the floor. I wouldn't worry about them - you'll soon learn that chickens will do what they want!
Re: Sandy's Pink LadiesFree range? You're kidding?? What were they free ranging in - a cupboard? They're in a worse state than any of my ex batts, the poor little things.
At least they'll be well taken care of now. Sounds like Elsa is a lovely friendly girl and a lap sitter - how special!
Re: The Awesome Foursome!Sounds like they've settled in nicely, and to be so tame already! They sort out their pecking order quite quickly in most cases, unless you're doing introductions to an existing flock. Since I got my chickens, I just want to pack my job in so I can spend all my time with them. But if I did - how wou...
Re: karen's chicken diaryYes cos I think Nugget is more like an early years Calisto!!! I did try and get hubby to get the camera because it was so funny, but we just couldn't move for laughing. I do feel sorry for my poor cat, so I thought I'd post a couple of pics of him up. He is such a handsome boy and almost quite good ...
Re: Sandy's Pink LadiesLovely pics as usual Sandy. Of course that's their chair! What's yours is theirs, what's theirs is theirs, what's the cats is theirs, what's next door is theirs... you get the point! Poor Pip. Does he give them a wide berth now? My poor Jasper has got a few pecks, the poor little fellow is very wary...
