Re: First Egg!Your first egg, how eggciting I'm looking forward to ours, but it's a way off yet.
Re: Broody Hen Died on EggsI absolutely agree with Lorna. Not everyone is as sentimental as others may be, but that doesn't mean that they don't care or wouldn't do what they consider to be right for their animals. Live and let live, what's good for some...
Re: Would anyone like a pile of strawberries?Hi Bill,
We are on the wrong side of Swaffham to you, about 60 miles. I thought of selling them at the gate but don't have any punnets and too late to order some now. Can't really put strawberries in a bag, would go soft. A thought for next year. We don't have a local shop.
Re: Would anyone like a pile of strawberries? You'd need a big trug, there must be at least another 3kg there. If my son was still at Nottingham Trent uni, I'd bring you some!
Would anyone like a pile of strawberries? So far this year I have picked about 20kg of strawberries. I have made oodles of jam and some strawberry wine, but there are still loads unpicked, which I don't need. I hate waste, so I was wondering if anyone here is near enough and would like some. I'm in Norfolk, but it's a big county, so if you ...
Re: Going cold turkey on new clothesI barely ever buy new clothes. Way too expensive for what you get. Charity shops are my best friend, especially the ones in London where my parents live.
Re: new homes for chicks They should be on Growers pellets/mash until they are 16 weeks old so should be separate from adults until then. They could go to someone else at any time from when they are fully feathered if that person has somewhere to keep them apart from their main flock. They should really be kept apart from ...
Re: Broody Hen Died on Eggs
I agree.
Re: Broody Hen Died on EggsOh hell, that's very sad to hear. I don't know what you should do with the eggs, 12 hours seems like a long time for them to be cold. Poor girl and poor babies.
Re: At Long Last, I Have Chickens! The poor things were totally confused and were trying to get into a tree (too high) and also roost on top of their feed container. In the end my hubby had to corner them under the coop and grab them one by one and plonk them in the coop. I hope they soon get the hang of where they are supposed to sl...
Re: At Long Last, I Have Chickens!
What is it you can't suss out?
Re: Help pleaseYou poor soul, I would have freaked if that was me. Hope you get it sorted soon. And hope it never happens to me! Someone once told me they stood a hot cup of coffee, intended for their husband, on the floor of a coop, and within minutes it was covered in mites. Disgusting, but could you lure them o...
Re: It is 98 deg in the gardenI did an 80 mile round trip today to get my new hens, and was worried about them on the way home. Luckily they were OK, and their run is nice and shady, so is the coop. I got a suntan on one side in the car No, really!
At Long Last, I Have Chickens!Today is a red letter day, I got my hens They are happily getting to know their new run, though so far they have explored only a small corner of it. I really hope they find their way into the coop tonight. Any tips to help them along? I Have 2 RIR's, 2 Black Rocks, and a Cuckoo Maran! I finally foun...
Re: Can anyone help me with Marans? You are such a lovely bunch! Pepi, thanks so much for taking the time and trouble to list those. I'll get on it tomorrow. From what I have read, they are decent layers, and those dark eggs look very appealing, plus they mix with other breeds well. I also would like some RIR's or Welsummers, plus a c...
