Re: Time for a new run/enclosure how high though?

Please go higher. I am 5ft and had a 4ft run, its a nightmare to clean in the winter crawling about on your knees. I now have a walk in run (for 2 years) best thing i ever did it's so easy to rake out etc

Re: Coop repair

Good morning and welcome to the lane . Lots of people here to help you with that (Not me i am useless ) Before you lay out any money, make sure it's big enough for what hens you want, as they do need a decent size run for the daytime. Sleeping is less of a problem as they all tend to squeeze in toge...

Re: edna has a dark red comb

You say her comb is dark red? Purple blue, or just red? If she is eating/drinking ok i wouldn't worry to much, as she may not lay many eggs now at 4 just now and again.

Re: Lily our bantam on last legs, what can I do?

I had a girl who was lame for ages, and maybe the reason she is getting weak is that she can't feed/drink properly. As suggested perhaps a trip to the vet. I know for some its not that easy, vets are not cheap these days. If thats not an option perhaps put her in a small dog cage, keep food water ne...

Re: extremlly excited

When i hatched my chicks i kept them seperate from the main flock, as my other girls went for them, they went into a small rabbit hutch. I didn't introduce them to the other girls for weeks, if you can i would stick them on their own with mum x

I have 2 brooody Pekins at the moment, Cilla has been like it for a month, now Sally has decided to join in with her. I have just closed the coop door for an hour so that they eat/drink then will have to open it for the other 2 girls to lay. It's a nightmare, but it's what they do bless em. I just t...

Re: Worst day in my Chicken keeping life

It's heartbreaking. In 2012 i lost in total 6 girls. 2 on the same day, i was heart broken. I now only have 1 big girl, and the others are Bantums they don't seem to have the same egg problems as the big girls, and although i love them dearly have now decided that they will be the last for some time...

Re: Just one left - advice needed please

Hello Chickens are better in a flock they do love company. If it is possible to introduce a few others i think she would be happier. Perhaps introduce a couple of Point-of-Lay chooks then you will also get some nice eggs for the spring/summer, although be prepared for a little kicking off, as until ...
