Re: Hatching

Thanks, I know they need heat but just wondered if I can use a normal bulb.
I have a mini incubator, an indoor rabbit cage for a brooder and the offer of 12 Copper Marans eggs.
Just slightly eggsited!

Re: Can i pick everyones brains please?

Hi. Were you referring to cockerel corner. Can't think where exactly but I pass it on the way to presall from lancaster. Sorry I haven't read all posts, just skimmed. But I'd really worry about all the diseases that could be brought in. And yes you would get cockerels dumped. Don't get me wrong. I t...

Re: Chicken medicine

Instructions say dissolve into 5 litres of water, so I've done that, into coke bottles. She has had a whole ramkin already. I have frozen water in foods bags that I'm going to wrap in a towel to bring her temp down. Not sure this is a good idea but I know high temp can be very bad. Maybe I'll see ho...

Re: Chicken medicine

She's away on holiday. Catching some winter sun ( not jealous at all )
My girl has been quiet for a couple of days but this morning staggered out of the coop. I have her in the back room, really laboured breathing and feels very hot.

Re: Broody Chicken with Duck Eggs

If they are under a broody you don't need to turn them as she will do it, you don't need to do anything. Just lift her off for food at least once a day and make sure there is food and water available. I don't know about ducklings but chicks need a water source that they can't fall into, a saucer wit...

Re: Silkie chickens

Hi, In my band of 7 wonderful girls I have Martha, my ex batt, she is a wonderful affectionate girl. However, I added 2 silkies, Martha did not approve! She hated them from the off, she hunted them, they were 14 weeks when I got them and she never gave up. Now, it turned out that both my beautiful s...

Re: Newbie

Hi Bren, welcome to the lane. I started 2 years ago with 3 girls, thought that would be fine, I added 2 more last easter, then 2 exbatts last October, then 2 more this easter. 1 of my girls has just gone broody so as my friend wanted some babies I got 6 eggs for her to sit on, when I told a friend, ...

The wind blew very hard and I had to take down the tunnel late at night.
I had burnt my hand badly and unfortunetly lots of seed packets got wet
I have now replaced them an will send them on tomorrow
Sorry

Re: What shall we get next?

My Bluebelle is Top Hen, lovely to look at but not very friendly, when we first got her she was a night mare to catch. 2 years on, erm My Light sussex is lovely, comes running to see if I have treats. I got a gentle peck this afternoon as I wouldn't show her my mobile, she wasn't inpressed. Fleur la...

Re: dust bath

Doesn't matter what I provide - the girls dust bathe where they want to. Favourite places include under trees, top of the rockery, rough ground next to the compost bins. I've only had chickens for less than a year, but I long since gave up providing "proper" stuff (other than food etc) an...
