Re: The Dambusters

Think it was said that there are only 2 Lancasters left flying, one in GB still kept in good order though only flown if conditions are perfect for it and the other privately owned in Canada. If parts are needed to be replaced, they have become obsolete but such is the passion for this plane , that t...

The Dambusters

Last week on radio 2 a lot of scheuduling was given over to the commemoration of the Dambusters mission of 70 years ago. Nothing was taught to me in school about this, mores the pity as I have found the information I have picked up whilst listening in has been so inspiring. I can't begin to imagine ...

Re: Les Miserables

Unlike those of you that posted earlier in the year, Eck and I didn't get to see this at the cinema but it was released this week on dvd/blu ray. Last night we were there with our bags of popcorn and a little fizzy refreshment to while away 3 hours. What a film, thoroughly enjoyed it , the music was...

Re: Matilda poorly

My silkies went broody in their 1 st year but they are known to be a broody breed are sablepoots, I dont know about this breed. If you think it is a troublesome egg she is trying to pass then the best way of helping her would be to give her a warm belly bath, that is to relax her muscles and her her...

Re: Daddy's little helpers

We had a half load of woodchip delivered in the week , Eck got it down in the run (by shutting the helpers out) but they did the garden for him as he was getting a bit tired wheelbarrowing it in from the drive . Bless.

Re: How Long Will Chicks Stay with Mum?

I raised chicks under 2 silkie mums last year. To begin with they were all in a small run together then as the chicks grew, mums and chicks were put alongside the main flock in the newbie/hospital run so all could see but not mix. At about 6 weeks I integrated the silkie mums back into the main floc...

Re: 5000 hens going for Slaughter in the Midlands on Wednesd

I read this on FB and found it terribly sad , really doesn't give anyone much chance to do anything , other than rescue the odd half dozen or so if they have the room. If only the farmers would flag up sooner that they were getting rid of stock I am sure so many more could be rescued.

Re: eyes

Not absolutely sure but it is a strange coincedence to happen to both. Think if they were mine I would wipe their eyes gently with cotton wool soaked in a saline solution just to make sure there are no scratches or sign of early infection, then just keep a watch on them in case it progresses into so...

Re: Kitty's hatching adventure

They really are lovely chicks Kitty, not sure if Frizzles would do well up here too wet - the silkies just about survive but on really bad days they have their own covered run to stay in, maybe Frizzles would be ok kept like that too. I didn't handle the chicks I hatched last year at all, just left ...
