Right, I've been outside with the ruler.
The flocknet round my hens has a mesh of 3"x4" squares. If a strand snaps they will find and squeeze through a double square, no problem. The 4' high net will usually keep them in though I have one that's getting out every morning at the moment.

I've never kept a cockerel. If you want eggs the ones I got first were Black Rock, they are a hybrid, so even if you did have a cockerel you couldn't breed them to be the same. They laid well for me. One was mostly black, the other had more brown in it, so I could tell them apart, and I had a White ...

My word, you lot are slow!
I asked the same q on Mudcat, the folkmusic forum and got 2 answers while I was having my tea - £1/lb on Gainsbourough market or £1.99 /400g on special offer at Sainsburys. I knew markets were better value.

I didn't ask them about picking it though.

I've just picked 5lb of rhubarb to sell at our dance club's charity book stall tonight. Of course I never buy it so I've no idea what to suggest for price ('a donation', probably). Any ideas? Does anyone know how much you should pick? It seems to grow thick and tangled; if you dont pick it the stems...

Hi, Welcome to the forum. My hens live in the orchard, on grass, but I know that some people with small hen runs have them paved. A lot of people did this in case they had to keep them covered in any bird flu outbreak. (Are you still around Chickpea?). Hens are very adaptable, they will even lay egg...
