Re: pics

Excellent - glad my directions weren't too hopeless! Lovely pics and good idea about the diary. I'm thinking of doing one too.
Interesting about Dandelion's comb - it is very different to the others, isn't it? I expect she is just extra special! >ch<

Re: pics

I am not sure if this is how everyone else does it, but I use Photobucket. If you have not yet got photobucket, it is very easy. Just register with them and start uploading photos, it is fairly self explanatory on their site. I find the app for iPods, if you have one, even easier than the main site....

Blooming broody AGAIN

http://i791.photobucket.com/albums/yy195/PJB_01/null_zps4ec6bfa5.jpg Mugshot: Miranda. Stands accused of wilfully getting broody twice in three months! Last time we tried just excluding her from the coop during the day. No joy. After three weeks we had to put her in solitary (to cool her heels and,...

Re: Apple Cider Vinegar

Yup, made that mistake! About three weeks ago I went to our local health food shop and bought nice, clear, organic, expensive, totally wrong ACV. Put a little bit in once, then saw a thread mentioning The Mother and thought "Doh! >dum< "

Re: Apple Cider Vinegar

Thank you. Horse ACV it is!

And thank you Pepi - that is our Wiggy, she is a very special girl: gentle, sweet, nosy, greedy, totally bonkers and very scatty.
The others are lovely too of course, Cupid (top right) is a very friendly girl and Amber (top left) is a chicken with serious attitude!

Apple Cider Vinegar

I popped into my local Sca-ts store to get apple cider vinegar today (haven't bought it before) and came away without any because I was confused... They had: poultry Lifeguard ACV by NAF for £16.95 Equine ACV by NAF for £14.95 Own brand equine ACV on offer for £8.95 All 5 litres All three were unpas...

Hiya. Sorry folks - me again with another question... We have been on holiday for two weeks and have had someone looking after our five girls while we have been away. Got back today and, on the whole, they all look bright and well. Had to start treating them for respiratory infection just before we ...

Re: Keeping hens and ducks together!!

My sister-in-law was given two ducks which she has been keeping in with her 5 chickens, but is now desperate to find them a new home because one (now christened Dirty Bertie) is male and is mostly ignoring the female duck and sexually harassing the hens. One favourite of his in particular is losing ...

Re: New Chicken Keeper with lots of worries!

Hiya Deb, I'm with you - only had chickens since the end of April and it is a steep learning curve, isn't it?! Having settled into a bit of a routine, about month or so ago I made the mistake of telling a few people that it was pretty easy, really - and BAM! in the past three weeks I have been deali...

Re: Pecking order and knock on effects

Thank you. I have been to the vet who thought it was upper respiratory/sinus. She was surprised that the symptoms were so mild - just one eye closing, bubbling just a tiny bit, no wheezing and her chest was clear - but clearly Cupid was distressed as she was constantly shaking her head. The vet gave...

Pecking order and knock on effects

Hiya - firstly thanks to everybody who helped me with my worming query. I am afraid we seem to be getting a bit of a run of things and I am wondering whether our latest problem is down to pecking order and would love to hear about other people's experiences. We have five hens and, from observation, ...

Re: Urgh worms, help please

Thanks for your replies. Don't worry the flub will do the job. All the hens will have worms anyway and yes they are tasty (yuk). Are the worms coming out dead or wriggly? Well even the first ones, before the flubenvet, were pretty stiff and barely moving and that is what almost all the ones I have s...

Urgh worms, help please

Hiya chicken folk, newbie here! I am also a newcomer to chickens, having got five lovely Point-of-Lay hens in May. We have a coop, large walk-in run and a big grass area enclosed by the largest size Omlet netting. I am loving chicken-keeping and the chickens - although it has become pretty stressful...
