At first I tried an old funnel upside down but it wasn't big enough, I then used a large plastic bowl (don't tell the wife) aga...

Re: What I planted today

I haven't got a greenhouse, but last year I germinated everything on my lounge window sill. Should I be starting now? :-D[/quote]

I have started sprouting seeds now, why not. Gives you a head start on the growing season )t'

Re: Worried about very damp hut!

I would definatley raise it off the floor on legs so the bottom has good airflow around. Maybe close the vent so there is a gap for air but so it isnt fully open. You could leave the vent open in the day and then close at night. :-D

Forgot to say the hens and cockerel are Pure Breed Cream Crested Legbars, and the Ducks are just a Mallard type. Not sure of the exact breed but lovely birds. )t'

Re: Should I be worried

Just another possible newbie silly question .... My 2 new girls have been with us for just over a week now and still not given me my breakfast egg, they were laying before I picked them up and their diet has not changed. They seem very happy and content. Should I be worried Or am I just being silly...

Will be picking up my flock tomorrow of 2 Hens and a cockerel and 3 Ducks! Her children don't want them to go either, but I assured her...

Re: What I planted today

Thanks for the reply Steve, I,ve used toilet tubes for several years now when sowing parsnip as I can virtually get 100% germination in a cool greenhouse. I have never felt the need to use tubes for carrots as carrot seed germinates most readily outside in spring. Good luck with the new growing sea...

Re: What I planted today

I,m intrigued Steve, what do you do with the carrot seedlings when they are thru in the propogator ? I grow them in toilet roll holders, that way I can plant them straight into the ground, roll an all! Saves disturbing the carrot seedling. The toilet roll rots away long before the carrot is mature,...
