My pepper - is it dunfer?
My pepper - is it dunfer?Hi,
some little blighter (an ant? seen on the pot) has chewed through the main stem f my pepper plant. Is it dead and gone, or may it still grow from the roots again?

I don't think so, but someone may put me right on that. Richard New Member? Get more from the Forum and join in 'Members Chat' - you're very welcome
Re: My pepper - is it dunfer?About two weeks ago, one of mine 'capsized'. Not sure what had done it, but it looked almost as if the stem had been crushed, but not snapped. It's just about recovered although if something has actually severed the stem of yours then I would have thought it's not got much chance.
Re: My pepper - is it dunfer? It depends on how big/old the pepper plant is - if the stem is "woody", then it has a good chance of budding and sending up new shoots (basically, a method of encouraging them to bush up rather than a single stem). However, if you are still talking tender seedling then it may not recover. Don't give up hope though and keep your fingers crossed.
Re: My pepper - is it dunfer?Good points, I've repaired plants in the past by splinting them back up vertically if you see what I mean.
It's a little bit like undoing a kink in a hose pipe. If the stem is still fully attached and not split, there's hope. Richard New Member? Get more from the Forum and join in 'Members Chat' - you're very welcome
Re: My pepper - is it dunfer? Thanks for the advice. I'll try my first aid skills on it.
Re: My pepper - is it dunfer?Er,how did you splint it, please? Set about trying to do it but then wans't sure how to without doing more damage.
Re: My pepper - is it dunfer?Hi
very thin stick and tie just above and below the place where it dropped. I think I once used sellotape ! This is assuming it didn't actually break off altogether. Richard New Member? Get more from the Forum and join in 'Members Chat' - you're very welcome
Re: My pepper - is it dunfer?Ssssh! Don't want to speak too soon but I think it's going to be OK.
Re: My pepper - is it dunfer?I know this is a bit late but just wanted to add I once used a sticking plaster, one of the fabric ones for a cut finger, to wrap round a tomato stem that I had carelessly severed with my secateurs - it worked perfectly and the tomato carried on very strong and healthy.
Re: My pepper - is it dunfer?I hadn't thought of that! I broke a wooden coffee stirrer in half and then used an elastic band to half-hitch it around. It seems to have worked. Although the plant is quite small, it has grown a a few leaves and a bud, which got knocked off, and now another. Quite exciting.
Re: My pepper - is it dunfer?good luck - I have never had much success with peppers. Maybe they don't like growing alongside my tomatoes?
