Make a Sunflower House for the children/grandchildren

Post by Linda Pattison »

At the Hartford, Conn., USA public library there are garden volunteers who came up with this idea to encourage reading. I think we could do that and more with children or grandchildren, from the planting to the reading space and onward to harvest time with seeds offered to wild birds or the chickens:

We have a sunflower house in the making here - although the weather and the slugs are conspiring against us at the moment :-D We're growing Morning Glories up our sunflowers, which will hopefully look beautiful (if any survive the slug attack!)

t sounds like fun! It's been cold and wet in Nova Scotia for the past week too, I had put my winter thermals away but they're back again. As you say things in the garden doing well so long s slugs are deterred!

Lovely idea, I like the willow houses too. And I have seen a beech cottage play house.

It's a very novel idea isn't it and would last for quite a few weeks.

Great stuff !
