Dave the gerbil....(sad post)Dave the gerbil....(sad post)Not having much luck at the moment. Brian my gerbil has attacked Dave and hurt him very badly. Along with this, Ozzy got into the tank a couple of weeks ago and I found him with poor Dave under his paw upstairs. Dave is laying in my hand barely breathing and I feel helpless. :(
So now thats Nellie and just about Dave. :( in the space of 2 weeks. ****Emma****
...Ever the optimist! Oh Dear this is a terrible week.
We have heard of 11 hens killed by a coyote [USA] another one very, very ill. Recovered only for her owner to find one of her bantam cockerels dead, and a missing Duck. So sorry lets keep our fingers crossed that Dave makes it. If he has the spirit of our Dave, he is well away. Big hugs for you and him. Wendy http://www.busheyk9.co.uk
If you can't be a good example........ you will just have to be a horrible warning Dave passed away peacefully in my hand 5 minutes ago. He took a little wheeze and that was it. I felt so sad. Poor little ugger. I have now laid him to rest under the tree in the garden and made a makeshift dooberry wotsit to stick in the top.
He will be sadly missed :( ****Emma****
...Ever the optimist! Poor little thing.
At least he has no pain now. Wendy http://www.busheyk9.co.uk

They can get to you can't they, these pets, no matter what they are.
Gerbils in pairs often don't 'go' and they kill each other. I used to keep them and could never work out why, once they've mated and got to a certain age (forget what age), you have to segregate them. We had them in ahuge fish tank, then in about three tanks joined together by tunnels. But we still had to give them away very quickly. I gave up because after a while it became difficult to fing homes. Busy little Desert Rats! Take care. New Member? Get more from the Forum and join in 'Members Chat' - you're very welcome
Mine are in a fish tank. They were brothers and used to get on ok but for some reason Brian mauled poor Dave. He had been got at by his man parts and there was a lot of blood (sorry for TMI) and a big ole chunk of fur was yanked from the back of his head. I just cuddled him til he slipped away. He went very cold all of a sudden.
I don't know if people generally take on single gerbils, as they are homed in pairs. I don't know what to do with Brian now. ****Emma****

Sorry to hear that Emma. You are having a run of bad luck aren't you?
We had a similar (but not as gory) episode with our tropical fish (the very inappropriately named Treasure). He literally battered the life out of his tankmate, which was horrible to see. My kids were getting quite upset but we unfortunately didn't have anywhere to move the injured fish to. You do feel so helpless don't you. Needless to say he now lives on his own. Don't want to watch that again thanks! Keep your chin up honey. Michele In a perfect world every dog would have a home, and every home would have a dog - Anon.
