i am sooo bad

Post by spudley »

I take our dogs up the field when we get home from work to have a good old ball fling for about half an hour. In the dark i point the torch in the direction i am throwing the ball to give Spud and Louie a chance. We have one of those ball flinger things, and i have a choice of balls, soft for shorter and some hard rubber for long flings. Well i was going to do a lowish throw and the dogs had legged it in the direction I released the ball, but the dogs had turned to look, ran across the path and the thwock as the ball smacked poor spuddy buddy in the eye was almost as bad as his screaming,
I was so worried, if that had been the hard ball he would be a gonner now. He was really very needy and over excited all night and kept the eye closed every time he looked at me, he knew how bad i felt and made sure that I knew I had hurt him. We thought that it would be a trip to his favorate place (vets!) but luckily there seems to be no lasting damage and he is still as daft as a brush.
BUT it has taught me a valuable lesson-dont fling the hard balls in the dark!!!

Ah ha....cruelty to the dog. That must be written down for further reference.
Glad to hear his eye has recovered.

Whenever hubs throws sticks for Dino I cringe as Dino often nearly gets whacked as the stick lands (he is a very fast dog). Glad Spud was OK, but they don't forget - they seem to have a memory of an elephant! He will be a bit wary from now on I think :-D

Be careful with sticks Kate. They can run onto them, and they get stuck down their throats. Painful and expensive.

even yesterday he was still squinting at me..

he is such a dafty though, he once hurt his leg while chasing a phesant, so now associates anything like them with paid (good news with the chickens though, he will not go anywhere near them) twisted his foot chasing a rabbit so they are safe too and almost ripped his tounge out with a stick and had two months on baby food!! now he will only run after a stick when it has landed safly on the floor and stopped moving.
He is very clumsy but i am sure that the vet thinks that we must be battering him!!!!!!!!!! he is a dear though.

Sounds like Spud will be getting a really nice stocking of goodies on Christmas morning. :-D

Seriously, thank goodness he is OK and you are right, it gives you a shock and teaches you a lesson when things like this happen. Glad everyone is well, that is the main thing. Give Spud a cuddle from me. XX

well he is still milking it,wanting extra cuddles, although he is back to his normall self, but last night he wouldnt drop the ball for me at all, so we all just walked around the field. He was dropping for Mr Spud this morning though, so its just me, the battering mum that he wont play with.

Well, it sounds like you are right, Spud is going to make you feel awful until you make amends on Christmas Day with plenty of toys (not HARD balls), treats and Christmas dinner!! :-D :-D

We live by the sea, and years a go when I was a teenager I used to take my Paddy dog to the beach. He loved swimming so we'd thorw stones as far out intot he water as we could and he'd go charging into the sea after them and have a great time swimming round. One day he ran before I threw the stone, scrambled up a big rock and jumped for the stone as I threw it. He caught it in mid-air...and lot hlaf of one of his canaine teeth :?
I felt soo guilty - I was alway so careful to throw thwe stones where he couldn't actually catch them...or so I thought!!
Waiting to welcome Sunny Clucker to Northern Ireland!

well Spud still will not let me throw balls for him, he is a little minx, and is now sleeping on the bed with us. I know I know its worng, but he has become soooooo needy, this has been brewing for a whie though, he has been edging up. now when i go up he plonks himself in the middle. He doesnt stay all night though, i think that he gets off, and for a lardy his is quite gentle We dont notice at all, and he is normally such a stomper.
I wish he would drop the blinking balls for me though.
