Countryfile and chicken itemCountryfile and chicken itemDid anyone else see the clip on tonight's show about the chicken farm where they have thousands of little broilers? I had no idea they slaughter them after only 49 days
We were sitting eating our roast chicken dinner when that clip came on, kind of put us off our meal. We had no idea they had such a short life, poor things Also the farmer chap on there now does his own brand of chicken pellets, not sure how long they have been on sale. Saw them today at the place we get our chicken food from and it was quite expensive Lyn

Re: Countryfile and chicken itemI saw it, I thought it was actually very sad, all those little chicks, imagine what it will be like when they are grown
They had some natural light, woopydoo Re: Countryfile and chicken itemI thought that it was interesting that they didn't show you the birds as they reached closer to the time of dispatch. That is a showcase farm, most do not reach that standard.

Re: Countryfile and chicken itemIt was very sad wasn't it
All of them indoors for such a short life, I couldn't believe how happy the couple running the place seemed to be. Lyn

The place looked almost roomy when the birds were small (as well as having very clean shavings on the floor). There will be a big difference when each of those 40000 birds are at slaughter weight! Relax, I could have been a twin.
Re: Countryfile and chicken itemThey could be doing far worse and that must make them happy.
For anyone who has ever eaten at a fast food place or bought a readymeal or bought cheap chicken legs, this farm is state of the art. 49 days is about bearable, thankfully they don't have to endure any longer. Sunny Clucker welcome in Barnsley.
Re: Countryfile and chicken itemI never ever buy this sort of chicken, however let's face it, it is 10 x better than some places. Wonder what it will look like in a year or two after a few more thousands of chickens have gone through it.
Re: Countryfile and chicken itemI didnt see the programme, but I am aware of farming methods.
Sadly, demand has meant that these birds are intensively bred and kept. http://www.freshstartforhens.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you can't be a good example........ you will just have to be a horrible warning Re: Countryfile and chicken item
It is awful and especially when supermarkets are giving them away at reduced times
Re: Countryfile and chicken item
Not least in the smell as the shed will not be cleaned out during that 49 days Live a simple life and be happy , Rich.
Re: Countryfile and chicken itemHi
Only just joined the forum and read this article - easiest way to not participate in this terrible practice is to not eat the beautiful animals we share our planet with ;) My dog is my friend but my hennies, sheep, cows and pigs are my best friends, why eat your friends?!
