World's Squarest Teenagers?World's Squarest Teenagers?Anyone else been enjoying this series?
Considering the so-narrow background they come from, I found these youngsters delightful, open-minded, tolerant, thoughtful, capable and wise. Think some of our young people could learn a bit from them! Re: World's Squarest Teenagers?I have been watching it and I was surprised how much they knew of the world and how they compared it to theirs, I have always thought the amish way of life looked lovely although I guess it has some sides that would maybe considered not too good. I liked they way the teenagers tried some of the western ways and still had the pull of their way of life, have enjoyed it very much, and agree it could teach some of our youngsters a thing or too
Re: World's Squarest Teenagers?Yes, I have been watching it as well. What delightful young people they were.

If you can't be a good example........ you will just have to be a horrible warning
Re: World's Squarest Teenagers?i only saw one episode and wondered how they managed to find themselves on TV (being amish) and how this might alter their outlook on life etc?
Re: World's Squarest Teenagers?I watched it too and loved it. The thing that struck me was that despite their lives being so devoutly connected to the Bible, that they were so non-judgmental to the ways and thinking of others . Also that their lives were based on mutual respect for their fellow humans, which is the way IMO that it should be. Its a very uncomplicated, no frills way of living, which on the face of it seems quite attractive, but I guess that nothing is that simple.
They all seemed to know what their role in life was, which brought contentment. I didnt get the impression that they really wanted to rebel, that much. Just goes to show..........is the grass really greener on the other side. Maybe the society we live in, today, allows so much freedom its difficult to decide which path to choose.? With so many choices its easy to make the wrong one. lorna I`m not a teacher for nothing, you know!! If I was clever, I`d be dangerous.
Re: World's Squarest Teenagers?Just watched the last episode, a very interesting series. It’d be interesting to find out how they all got on after they returned home to what is essentially a highly prohibitive way of life. In this last instalment Leah’s family had two cars on the drive and her brother had a stereo in his bedroom, not sure what that was all about but maybe it goes someway to explain why they were allowed to make the programmes in the first place.
I wonder if their way of life would be possible without the driving force of a deep religious conviction? Bah Humbug
Re: World's Squarest Teenagers?Yes I wondered how they got on when they got home.
I cant see why it wouldnt work without religious conviciton, but I think you would maybe rather isolated if you didnt have others living around you who wanted to live the same way. I have a feeling it would be rather difficult. What would you based your restrictive choices on? How would you decide what you `would` do and what you `wouldnt`.? I suppose its do-able in theory, but not sure about how practical it would be in todays modernistic society. The rest of the world seem to reguard people who live like they do with a fair bit of suspicion, unfortunately. Intersting question SS. lorna I`m not a teacher for nothing, you know!! If I was clever, I`d be dangerous.
Re: World's Squarest Teenagers?I missed this series, what channel is/was it on?
I could do with letting my 12 year old see she's not suffering as much as she thinks she it! " -zere isn't much to do 'ere, unless you like cooking and chickens!"
Re: World's Squarest Teenagers?Channel 4, you should be able to get it on internet, hope it gives your daughter something to think about
