Good Old TV ComedyGood Old TV ComedyI am just watching the old TV series George & Mildred with Brian Murphy and Yootha Joyce. Not sure how old the series is but it still brings a smile to my face watching it. Cleverly written and well acted.
Anyone else remember it? "Not all those who wander are lost"
Re: Good Old TV ComedyYes indeed.
There are some that don't age. Dad's Army, Only Fools and Horses and Black Adder are other timeless series. Not sure how I feel about the proposed new Faulty Towers series. Michael
Re: Good Old TV ComedyI remember George and Mildred. Nowadays TV comedy is pretty poor, and relies heavily on subjects I would not watch.
I loved The Royle Family. Re: Good Old TV ComedyAye and to go further.... Bless this House, Love thy Neighbour, On The Buses and Alo Alo. Though today in the UK some of them would not be allowed for fear of causing offence. I have mixed feelings on the new series, if it is eventually made it has a lot to live up to. "Not all those who wander are lost"
Re: Good Old TV ComedyOn the Buses was on repeats before Christmas, I managed to catch one or two.
Re: Good Old TV ComedyI googled the top old British comedy tv series and these came up:
Only Fools And Horses Blackadder The Vicar Of Dibley Yes Minister Open All Hours Dad's Army Fawlty Towers Porridge Some others I remember include In Loving Memory with Thora Hird, Dinnerladies with Victoria Wood, 'Allo 'Allo, Keeping up Appearances and Last of the Summer Wine. I wasn't really struck with Dad's Army or Fawlty Towers even when I first saw them (the laughs were down to too much silliness and a lot of noise and arm waving which got too much) As for the others, sometimes an occasional viewing if nothing else is on but to be honest, I wouldn't go out of my way to watch whole series of any of them. Re: Good Old TV ComedyThat is an interesting list and I wonder how many would agree with it? Everyone has their own tastes when watching anything on the TV/Cinema screen. I find it impossible to "binge watch" (is that the correct term?) like many and just watch an episode if I have the time in the evening. I remember Yes Minister as being a well written and amusing series and cannot deny that Only Fools and Horses was and still is a favourite of mine. A couple of others I would like to watch again: The Good Life also To the Manor Born (I think that is the right title). "Not all those who wander are lost"
Re: Good Old TV ComedyOf LLs list the only one we watched regularly was Fawlty Towers. (Doubt if it has aged well though). Enjoyed the Good Life.
