I've just put my jacket and gloves on, it's cold here today. Oh, and another jog bottom making three pairs.

Yeesh I forgot to list my ski gloves, got them on sale down lining, and (gasp!) washable for $10 Cdn.

I agree about falling down, one needs a team to get back up...

I knew this would- get people talking heating is crazily expensive and I used to spend 1800 a year on electric and gas and I hope to cut that in half! I haven't starved by cutting our food bill in half and I won'[t freeze with less heating

Exactly as I was thinking Jane. I haven't froze to death in the last couple of years without heating, so I won't be switching my new central heating system on very often. My bills will not increase significantly, more like a couple of pounds extra if it freezes. )t'

Mmm..lets see. Beside bra and pants i have on camisole top, long sleeved thermal t-shirt, flanelette pyjamas, socks and big warm fleece top. Mind you i dont think its that cold at the moment. When its really cold i wear a lot more. Sometimes (but not often!) i even put on my gas fire-but the central heating-almost never.

I look at it this way-when i was a kid growing up in the 1960s, we didnt have any heating upstairs at all-including the bathroom. Not even portable heat like oil filled radiators. We had gas fires in the sitting room and in the kitchen/dining room.
We did have hot water bottles, as i do now. And do you know what? We managed just fine! I think we are all a bit weak these days. A friend of mine was brought up in an old, rather draughty house by very practical, upper middle class parents. When she said she was cold (during the day) he rmum would just tell her to do something or run around-the heating never went on in the day!

I have to tell you about something I saw a week ago Saturday when we were driving home mid-morning from a quick grocery jaunt. There is a woman I know up the highway who is quite the 'clothes horse' and who turns herself out beautifully. She is a mid-management type. Well, I saw her hustling herself to her coop in hair rollers, smoking a cigarette (no hands ma!), bandana over the rollers, flannel nightie to the ankles, under which a pair of jeans, rubber boots (sloshing), bucket in one hand and egg basket in the other, and knowing her, cursing the cold air. Well I howled! In the summer that path is protected by a honeysuckle hedge, which is denuded now so she was fully visible to the cars on the highway. She would have been utterly embarassed and I will never tell her how that image affected me- can't get it out of my mind!

I also wear my original suit to bed, and have done for as long as I can remember.
I have just had to buy two new sets(?) of pyjamas to take with me into hospital. What a bummer!
