Boos frugal 2014Boos frugal 2014I think like most, i need to cut back on personal spending and we as a household need to be better too. We waste a ridiculous amount of food, we dont plan meals, we go shopping for food every night (yes I know!). So frugal 2014 is here!!!
I've already started, today I got my bike out of the shed and went of the supermarket on it to get some shopping. I did also try and save money by printing off my filofax inserts, what an absolute nightmare!!!! Its not worked I'm going to buy some. I'm going to cut back on unnecessary spending especially on clothes and also make do and mend. I transformed an old T-shirt for nye by making some new shoulder caps: this is something i want to do more of take my old wardrobe and transform it rather than buying new stuff. photos of allotment & other nice things: http://pinterest.com/girlontheplot/

Re: Boos frugal 2014Nice to read that Boosie, there is much to say about old furniture.
Ikea Stores are packed nowadays, fair enough they are reasonably priced but so much can be done with a bit of TLC on older stuff. Richard New Member? Get more from the Forum and join in 'Members Chat' - you're very welcome
Re: Boos frugal 2014Well today ive persisted and persisted and the filofax inserts where just not working! I then came across a little pack on etsy its cost me £5.99 but for that ive got:
diary inserts address inserts birthday and anniversary inserts to do list expenses sheets reminders notes meal plans all sorts of charts and they're all handmade and themed. Frankly, id rather give a fiver of money to someone handmaking something than filofax! I've also made some nice pretty dividers probably not a neccessity - actually yes they were. nothing on my housework list done but my filofax is starting to look lovely! xx photos of allotment & other nice things: http://pinterest.com/girlontheplot/

I think Boo was talking about the contents of her wardrobe, not the actual furniture. Come to that, our house seems to be the furniture warehouse for the whole family. I never buy new, but don't throw away what I'm given, either. And I'm storing loads of stuff for daughters inlaws in case they move back into a house from the campervan. Sunny Clucker enjoyed Folk music and song in mid-Cheshire Re: Boos frugal 2014We need a new iron, the old iron is full of black burn marks and puts sticky marks on the clothes when you iron them. Tonight, I've spent a good half hour armed with bicarb and vinegar. I've got most the marks off, and no longer need a new iron!!!!!
In other news Mr husband has decided to take up the work offer of a company car. He currently has a merc that has been sat on the drive since October as it needs £300 worth off work which we just haven't got. But we can sell the work and he can get a company car, we won't necessarily be 'better off' but we will have a reliable car, insurance and tax and breakdown cover paid for and more importantly we won't be paying out for work that needs repeatedly doing on the old merc, so really we will be better off. Re: Boos frugal 2014Yesterday I used my bike to the allotment and back and then to the supermarket. It was hard work to the allotment but manageable more so if it had been good weather and though I hated it I'm going to try and do it more often x

That's NEVER happened before!! I have literally accounted for every penny and it really has paid off watching my money decrease. I've printed off expenses sheets so I can keep track in the future. X

Re: Boos frugal 2014So in a bid to be more frugal/money aware, as you may have already read I've been accounting for EVERY penny I spend so far and it really has made a difference. Today I have started to implement stage two of be better with money. I've sectioned off my purse into six sections.
Money in Car/travel Food Family/pets Retail therapy Other As of next month I'm going to take a weekly allowance out of my account and only spend that. So 40 will go in the travel section so much the food section etc...I'll leave my card at home in the safe and not overspend!!!! This week I have sorted out my wardrobe and today I took a load of them to one of those shops where they pay you for them, I got £10 which is better than nothing! Also I am in the process is organising what's to be grown on the allotment. Overall, I'm doing OK but my main problem is I've developed a guilt about spending money which I'm not keen on, I'm hoping my retail therapy sectionof my purse will alleviate that. I bought a lovely lunch box yesterday it was £4 in the sale, pink of course! For taking lunch to the new job! Also I've found that toothpaste is great for getting tarnish off of silver! I've been walking to dinnerlady duty which to be honest is taking its toll now and I'm achey and tired but I've only got three more days of it. See if I get the bus there (because the husband has my car!) Its costs me about £3.20 return and its not worth it when its only £6.70 an hour. photos of allotment & other nice things: http://pinterest.com/girlontheplot/

Walking will pay off in getting you fit, so it shouldn't be such a struggle longterm. Though the bus is always an option when you are not feeling on top form, or the weather is foul. Well done. Dance caller. http://mo-dance-caller.blogspot.co.uk/p/what-i-do.html

Sorry I don't know much bout M E, except it makes you tired. I see you are about half way through a week of walking to work, and struggling a bit. For what it's worth, Mo is right, if you can get through the short term, the benefits will come long term. When I do a long walk, day 3 and 4 are killers, I struggle to find the energy to get out of bed. But I know I have to because I have to keep going. I focus purely on walking. On day 5 I feel good, day 6 great, and 7, fantastic, and if it goes into days 8 and 9, I feel on top of the world. Keep trying. Can you take a five minute rest 2 or 3 times during your walk? Carrying bags makes you more tired, have you got a rucksack? It's more comfortable if your hands are free and you can swing your arms. Good luck. Ilona |
