Re: Who knows a bit about what ?Like Homemade, I will have a go at most things basically because I can't afford to get someone else to do it. But I acknowledge that where my skills and knowledge are limited and could result in doing more damage or worse, be unsafe, then I'll bring someone in. I do all my own painting and decorating, and use self taught woodworking skills for small projects after overcoming my fear of power tools (except circular saws which I'm too terrified to use!) - hanging pictures on walls, shelves (built from scratch), awning over the back door, hanging baskets etc I love my router and all the drill bits for finishing off edges on planed wood - I rescued an old circular pine kitchen table given to me and gave it new life, one of my proudest moments. Re-felting shed roofs seem to becoming a speciality of mine for some reason. I used to be able to do (very) small car repairs but these days are more electronic than mechanical and I'm not so confident.
Re: Who knows a bit about what ?Health and physical activity with lots of science and health behaviour management like smoking cessation (it's the job, sorry) - not much use frugally speaking!

are yu taking Note Richard? Bah Humbug
Re: Who knows a bit about what ?
all power tools are dangerous! But I'd say the router was more like a fancy electric drill will guard shields and a guide - when lifted up, the drill bit retracts. I think the trick is to wear sensible clothing, especially eye shields and make sure the wood is well fastened down on the work bench. Circular saws - too many moving parts for my liking ... especially that saw (perhaps I've been watching too many horror films) Re: Who knows a bit about what ?LL, try a circ saw with a plunge facility, this allows the saw to be flat against the wood then you are able to safely plunge the blade into the meat, oops timber, using a lever.
Re: Who knows a bit about what ?Woodwork- especially using reclaimed and scrap materials.
Picture framing. Painting and decorating. Painting and distressing furniture using Annie Sloan paint and tecniques. Cooking- especially vegan and vegetarian. Weightwatchers but still trying to figure out the new points system. Candle making. Sewing and crafts. And of course keeping chickens as pets! Re: Who knows a bit about what ?As with most people here it seems, jack of all trades, master of none but I seem to do okay with:
- Electrics (but none of the certification stuff!) - Plumbing - Computers, programming and web stuff - Pastry making (speciality is a sweet rich short crust!) - Most areas of DIY :) Re: Who knows a bit about what ?Hmmmm - some of my 'skills' might come in handy but will definately expose the eternal student in me !!
I'm a qualified dental nurse. I'm a qualified vet nurse. I'm a qualified dog groomer and have diplomas in dog breeding and basic genetics ( very basic) I'm a qualified dog show judge for bull terriers. I have a certificate in child development from the Open University but that was because they dont do animal courses !! One that will probably help most on this forum is that I'm also a qualified psychiatric nurse !!
