in molt?
in molt?Hello everyone, Violet my columbian blacktail has some feathers missing from her wings. Our light sussex is a feather plucker, but I havn't seen her picking on Violet. Could she be going into a molt? Or do they molt only in the winter time? I've had all of the girls since November as Point-of-Lay. All six girls lay between 5 and 6 eggs per day.

Re: in molt?Usually moult winter, but I had one moult after bing broody. And Battery hens are put into a forced moult by giving them no food. So they can moult other times. And if they only started laying in Nov then maybe. I'm just guessing though. I think the first winter they moult more gradually and often keep laying.
