Moldy pelletsMoldy pelletsThe last bag of pellets I got from the egg man, 3 weeks ago, have a moldy lump of pellets in it. I phoned the egg man to ask for a replacement bag but he hasn't phoned back or replaced them. Should I insist he changes the bag or, I don't like this idea, should I go through the bag to see if I can salvage any?
It's a 20kg bag! I'm a Mum to 4 grown up 'kids!' and a Nana to two beautiful boys, with a granddaughter on the way come Christmas. I have 4 cats, Lucy, Sophie, Cairo and Tom. And my 3 chickens, Henrietta, Hyacinth and Jemima.
Re: Moldy pelletsI would definitely insist he replaces the bag

Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut - Ernest Hemingway Re: Moldy pelletsMe too, I would deffinately insist he replaces the bag or gives a refund.

If you can't be a good example........ you will just have to be a horrible warning Re: Moldy pelletsDepends if you have run out of food though
You can pick the good stuff out and then return it.

Re: Moldy pelletsNever risk mold, worst case use human leftovers or crumbs to keep them until you get more feed. You can get serious respiratory reactions to mold.

Re: Moldy pelletsEasy to ignore a phone call. Take it back, say quietly, "this is the food I phoned you about the you must have accidentally kept too long", if that gets no results, a little louder so that the other customeers might hear "I'm sure you wouldn't deliberately sell faulty goods and not replace them".
Then louder and more insistent quoting Sale of Goods Act "fit for purpose". Threaten to involve Trading Standards if neccessary. And ask him to show you the Best Before date on the new sack. I agree that if there are visible clumps of mould there will be invisible spores too. How lucky you looked. I never open a new bag till the old bag has run out.
