Moldy pellets

Post by Hester »

The last bag of pellets I got from the egg man, 3 weeks ago, have a moldy lump of pellets in it. I phoned the egg man to ask for a replacement bag but he hasn't phoned back or replaced them. Should I insist he changes the bag or, I don't like this idea, should I go through the bag to see if I can salvage any?
It's a 20kg bag!

Depends if you have run out of food though :-D

You can pick the good stuff out and then return it.

Never risk mold, worst case use human leftovers or crumbs to keep them until you get more feed. You can get serious respiratory reactions to mold.

Thanks everyone. Sorry I couldn't get back sooner, I had to go to work. I will phone him again. I'm not quite out of food but it isn't far off. Thanks again everyone.

Easy to ignore a phone call. Take it back, say quietly, "this is the food I phoned you about the you must have accidentally kept too long", if that gets no results, a little louder so that the other customeers might hear "I'm sure you wouldn't deliberately sell faulty goods and not replace them".
Then louder and more insistent quoting Sale of Goods Act "fit for purpose".
Threaten to involve Trading Standards if neccessary.
And ask him to show you the Best Before date on the new sack.

I agree that if there are visible clumps of mould there will be invisible spores too.

How lucky you looked. I never open a new bag till the old bag has run out.
